Why do legacy media and non MMA fighters always say "The MMA"

People can probably refer to the sport without the definite article, but they do not do so for whatever explanation.

The UFC is like "The" only relevant MMA organization as oppose to HBO boxing, Don king, Gary Shaw etc... that it gives MMA a singular identity. Like The UFC or The MMA.

They are all idiots, they know absolutely zero about the sport. We could legit replace them during MMA segments and do 100x better because we actually know what the F*ck we're watching. This happens to all sports tho, as they climb the mainstream ladder.
