Why didnt Mike Whitehead get a proper chance in the UFC?

He has a loss against Keith Jardine of all people :p

What's wrong with having a loss to Jardine?

So did Forrest griffin and chocolate L

Jardine was legit and implying otherwise is casual as fuck

Just checked his record, after losing to Keith Jardine in the UFC he went on a 13 fight win streak and never got signed again. Also his record of 27-8 is pretty fucking solid for a lhw/hw. And the name recognition from tuf 2 should mean that he certainly would have been a good pick.

Been following the sport for 10+ years and this just baffles me
The 13-win streak was pretty lackluster. Besides very washed-up versions of Mark Kerr and Vernon White, hardly anyone he beat has any name recognition. Travis Fulton often had 20+ win streaks in the minor leagues. Dan Severn did very well against inferior competition as well, even in his late 40s and 50s.

It's worth noting Whitehead had a decent resume in his early career--but mostly lost to big names. Two losses to Tim Sylvia, a win over Ben Rothwell (who was more experienced at the time--maybe Mike's best career win). Also lost to Brandon Vera but beat fellow sexual deviant Travis Fulton and porn star Aaron Brink in back-to-back fights.

Final note/edit: he also beat Kryzsztof Soszynski in his 13-win streak outside the UFC. That was his best win in that period. If he remained in the UFC, he'd have been about the same level as Kryzstof, Stefan Bonnar, etc....and a little below guys like Jardine and Brandon Vera. He never would've sniffed a title shot and would've lost to Machida, Rashad, Rampage, Forrest, Bader, etc. and of course Jones a few years later. So I'd say it was no big loss...just another UFC LHW in the middle of the pack--or slightly above the journeyman level for UFC standards.

Yeah, he was always vulnerable to a hard, well-placed punch, but in his prime he was quite well-rounded, had good leg kicks and a violent instinct. And despite being known for getting KO'd quite a bit (especially late in his career), he went the distance with Rampage and a younger/prime Mousasi.

Yeah he probably did some twisted sex shit in this case we are talking about. Usually if the sexual accusations aren't that serious they're dropped/handled out of court/slap on the wrist. He served time over it meaning the victims were fucking pissed and wanted his ass to burn for it. So yeah, fuuuuuck that guy!

YUP! That episode of TUF made him look pretty bad, lecturing the other guys about their mental toughness and being teachers pet to Hughes until it came time to perform and then freezing up for multiple rounds while Rashad danced.

A little off topic but I’m having trouble remembering which fight it was where Rogan was harping on and on about either Evans or Jardines win over Mike talking about what a tough guy he is and thinking “did you even see that fight?”. I’m pulling from pretty far back and giving little info but if you recall let me know.

Oh right I remember and I think Matt yelled at him:

Get going out there Mike I'm SERIOUS!!!

Then immediately folding like a cheap tent against Rashad

I remember Hughes being visibly pissed which was rare because up to that point, Matt was almost always calm, relaxed and maybe sometimes smog type of guy. Mike changed that and Matt threw a water bottle I think.

Fuck Im old!

Lol yup Hughes was pissed. Going into the 3rd (I believe) when Mike returned to the stool one of the cornermen was giving him some water and Hughes came over, snatched the water bottle and chucked it at the wall outside the cage. So funny lmao

That's the memory of him that stands out in my mind; Hughes losing his mind between rounds.
