One minute he was here and the next he was gone. I thought he wasn’t bad. He was only going to get better as he became more comfortable too
 
It was because the UFC wanted their broadcast team recognizable to the casual audience. Newcomers wouldn't know who Jimmy Smith is. Luke Thomas did a good job explaining it here:

By far. Cruz is abysmal.

I don’t mind Cruz. Then again I am slightly biased because he’s one of my favourite fighters of all time. You just have to accept that he’s a bit arrogant, but what he offers is a level of insight and breakdown that no one else does.
 
he's ok, but i can see why the ufc would want someone else. rogan snaked him. he was always jealout of jimmy for having laced them up.
