Why did you guys used to hate DC back in the day

I actually really like DC but Jones just has his number. I think if they fought 1000 times Jones wins 999 of them.

Like Jones didnt also nearly lose to Gus
Jones fight with Gus was a hell of a lot less close than DC's fight with an even older Gus who was coming off a 1st round KO loss and wasn't even worthy of a title shot. The only people who think Jones lost a close but clear 48-47 decision are Jones haters. Jones also never got folded like a pancake and nearly KO'd by Gus like DC did.

They also rematched to a 3rd round KO for Jones unlike DC who got stripped for refusing to defend against Gus or Jones again.

But you knew all this.

This is an insane take. He's clearly leagues better than Whittaker and especially Benavidez. He was number 2 to the greatest fighter of all time. If it weren't for Jones, there is a good chance he would have retired undefeated. He probably doesn't leave LHW if not for Jones.
How would DC have retired undefeated without Jones when he also lost 2 times to Stipe.

This is the problem with DC stans who don't live in reality.

The company thing most seem to dislike is super weird. He works, read this, works, for the UFC. They pay him a salary, and here in the real world (and you don't work in a restaurant with dyed blue hair), you don't get to talk bad about, nor publicly disagree with, your employer, especially when your employer resides in the public eye. Plus Cormier is probably payed reasonably well, and as such, he isn't going to jeopardize his paycheck.

So what does that mean to me? Well, I'm not going to listen to his opinions on company matters such as rankings, fights to make, or who deserves what within the ranks, but he seems a good dude and does a lot for high school kids in the folk style wrestling space. In short I can separate company DC, from commentator DC, from fighter DC. Always liked him and pulled for him.

For those discussing his one high testosterone result here is a highly technical talk about that. I don't know.

It's pretty clear to anyone with eyes and an ounce of sense that he'd destroy them all. He made Hendo look like a child. And no, no version of Hendo would have looked different vs DC.
That has nothing to do with his all time ranking though. Resume does.

He’s employed as a commentator but constantly inserts himself into everything as if he has any kind of authority. Telling guys how to fight, when to fight, how to train, what to say, etc.

He’s a bootlicker to an embarrassing, undignified degree

I love DC.. but to alot of people, he's the nice guy who lost

And he's company man to the core. Dude will say anything if directed

THe longer I have been exposed to him the less I like him, but back in the day I had he was fine, and I don't remember many people having issues until the Jones fight

He was ok imo up until his move to HW. How he did Stipe was the turning point. Skewered his eyeballs and then ducked a rematch to chase fights with Bork and Beast. Declared himself the GOAT. Made excuses for his subsequent Stipe losses. Still the second best LHW ever, but could have done more at HW imo if he wasn't avoiding Cain fight.

Bad mouthed Jan and was very dismissive of his performance against Gus, where he ridiculed Gus for taking damage on the feet and having to resort to wrestling. It was a treat when Jan KO'd his boy Luke.

His commentary is rough, unprepared, and heavily biased. Phones it in like a total unprofessional. Him and Rogan together is cringe. It's not a fucking hang you goofballs; it's a broadcast.

A two time Olympic wrestling team member, one time Olympic wrestling team captain (elected to that position by his teammates), multi weight class champion, and multi organization champion interjecting himself into fighters habits is embarrassing? I'm going to have to massively disagree. He has earned that right. Not only that, his peers respect, and like, him which should tell everyone all they need to know.

I love this thread. I never understood why people were booing DC. Jon Jones was well on the way to proving he was scum, and he cheated against DC to boot. People still booed DC. I didn't get it then and I still don't get it.
Same people that are cheering for Conor... some people just have no moral.

There are factions who always hated him, others who liked him. I think it is still that way.
Nah, I remember the vast majority used to hate on him much more during the Jones area

What does any of that have to do with his employment as a commentator?

You said it was embarrassing that he inserts himself (but constantly inserts himself into everything as if he has any kind of authority. Telling guys how to fight, when to fight, how to train, what to say, etc.), I'm illustrating why that is not even remotely embarrassing. He has lived martial arts life to the absolute fullest and if anyone should interject his thoughts into that discussion then it would be Daniel Cormier. He is the very definition of an expert within his chosen field.

If you're trying to say his commentary is the only thing that is embarrassing, then that's silly as well, again he lived the combat life to its absolute highest degree possible. If you're saying he is a company man, then that is silly too as the UFC is his employer, of course he is a company man.
