Why did the UFC just go to Abu Dhabi?

Does the venue have the ability to hold a decent crowd when covid is no longer a roadblock? Looked pretty small on tv.

no it looks designed down to a specfic moderate size. IF they wanted to get a crowd in there, with the money and resources that they have....they'd just do it. Expand the area, move the cage, make the main area larger, they'd just do what's necessary.

But...COVID has it's grip, it's just not going away anytime soon, unfortunately, so for now....this is the way it is.
Dana for all his belligerence seems quite accepting of that fact.

2020 is the Ultimate Example of 'Adapt and Survive' whatever situation you are in. Everyone has to Adapt and roll with the punches and figure out solutions to these new 2020 problems.
-- Companies / individuals / businesses / travel / relationships.....almost everything is affected by this. In a direct way or an indirect way.

Human Beings are quite good at adapting when they are forced to. This is why we are a dominant species on Planet Earth. Use of the cerebral cortex, use of tools, problem-solving. Critical thinking.
Well....now we are all forced to, some extent, Adapt-&-Survive for the forseeable future, with a new situation that's slowly evolving.

One more phrase that's sometimes useful to remember :
Life is What Happens to You when You're Making Other Plans.

It's all over the mama news, not just sherdog. If you know a fight took place in abu dhabi recently, then you've had enough mma immersion to know the answer, no excuses.

Besides, there's already threads made on the subject, so with ANY effort at all, you could find the answer without making a thread.

Give it a rest already. It's really not that big of a deal and if it triggers you so bad, you really didn't have to participate in the thread.

I'm sure the ufc like to go where there are no athletic commissions

Same reason WWE has been adamant about putting on their shows in saudi arabia over the last few years despite backlash for doing so. Phat saudi oil money stacks.

There was lots of promotion of Abu Dhabi, its tourism, airline hotel etc throughout.

One example all event posters had hashtags like "visit Abu dhabi" etc.

The promo vids, Dana's interviews etc praised that nobody does it like Abu Dhabi.

Without seeing the numbers we cant say for sure if it was a stupid deal for Abu Dhabi but it sure seems like a lot for them in hosting fees relative to what increased tourism revenue they'll get from UFC fans once the pandemic is over.

It tends to bring down costs when those responsible for the building the infrastructure can use slaves.

Hmm no, US have made special visas to let fighters and athlete compete and train in the us, Dan Hooker just fought recently, did you forget that ? But I would agree it's not the smartest move.

Edit :Except brazilians fighters I guess, their country is just as bad as the US, I dont think they would be let in anytime soon.
I'm not sure you are correct.
The US government gave the permission to foreign fighters to enter the US soil, BUT, in case the fighter has a Visa.
I've listen to one of the interviews of Sayat (Petr Yan's manager and translator), after Dana announced than Petr will be fighting for the title, and the interviewer asked him about the date. Sayat told him that it will be probably in July, as it would be pretty much impossible to get a US visa for Yan, as it was expired, and the process takes at lest 2-3 weeks, but Yan is ready to go even right now.
The interview was in the beginning of June.

So the Fight Island can be a solution to those fighters that don't have Visa, except the financial deal with the Emirates.

Because it's one of the few places where they basically have their own controlled area of arena, hotels, gyms and restaurants totally locked down from the general population. You can argue that it's not really an island in the traditional sense but its really like an island in the sense that they're basically out on an island totally separated from everything else going on in the country of UAE. You can't get into Yas Island without special permission.

No rest needed. Nobody is triggered but you. We're having a conversation about your pointless thread, so stop being so sensitive and suck it up, little buddy. Shit threads get shit on, is normal.

Lol you really petty over nothing

I haven't heard anyone ask this but normally the UFC travels to put on shows in different places because there's a live audience. It seems like a huge, unnecessary waste of money to fly a bunch of fighters out to a different country just to have them fight in a closed arena. Everything was pretty much the same as far as the look of the show goes. Didn't they even construct this arena just for this show? Couldn't this have just been done locally?

Maybe there was actually a small, select audience? Maybe they have to fulfill some sort of contract with partners in the Middle East?

IMHO it is because of difficulties of bringing international fighters into the US due to the pandemic.

But it is also marketing. "Fight Island" sounded a lot more fun than their own gym in CA.

they paid Dana a lot of money to be there, plus, they negotiated more future events.
