Why did the LHW division have to become so bad?

I was mostly joking but yes I agree that there is a tiny sliver of truth to what I said. We've made being a victim a heroic thing and being strong or traditionally masculine into something evil. The presumption seems to be that being masculine is necessarily toxic, cruel, abusive. That being strong means hurting those that are not strong. That real competition is bad because not everyone wins. But when you protect people too much you end up with weaker and less capable people and quite often that turns into its own toxicity and tyrannical behavior.

They let go a bunch of vets to Bellator. They signed smaller heavies that moved down or MWs that moved up. LHW is currently a kickboxing division. Some guys might have some BJJ but there is no wrestling. Jan is the "wrestler" of the division. Magomed can wrestle better than Jan but his control isn't great.

It really wasn't outside of a short few years. It's had people's favorite fighters but the other divs still had better talent. LHW has spent most of its time as a lackluster div.

But hey, you liked it and that's great. You could consider it the best in UFC history for all I care. Doesn't change how I see it

It has not. Reyes gave JJ problems, Reyes was defeated by Jiri and Jan, both of whom were defeated by Alex Pereira... I mean, UFC isn't simply A>B>C but if we gonna compare it, we need to have a ground of comparison, and the ground we stand, there may be an argument that it's harder than before when JJ reigned.

Fighters cut more weight nowadays. Guys like Machida, Shogun, Wanderlei, Rashad, etc. wouldn't be LHW if they came up in this era.

Pereira walks about at 230 and his first choice was to fight at 185.
 
The nostalgia thing applies to boxing as well... Like, "why the current HW boxers are so bad?? Muhammad Ali was so better". But that's mainly driven by nostalgia. The technology, training methods, overall MMA knowledge develops with time. Mike Tyson said he wouldn't have won against Tyson Fury, Floyd Mayweather believed the other recent champions of HW before the Fury era would have beaten Muhammad Ali. Though many ppl I think have a bigger excitement and nostalgia from times they perceived as funnier... But that's not an assessment of skills, but of which era brought the most attention. Boxers like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson had a greater appeal, were befitting more of the word "great". That doesn't mean the level decreased, rather, the appeal, the engagement decreased, imo.

The only divisions I think managed to avoid this MW just after Andy lost and WW when GSP left.
 
Ever taken your dog for a walk and he's taken a shiit? imagine that shiit is ranked number 5 in the division, you walk your dog in various directions for the following few years, then you walk that same route you first did when your dog took a shit, except that shit is all crusty, dry, weird colour and not even flies are interested in it. I think you get the picture.
