He clearly didn't want to fight again. The check must have had enough 0's on it to make him come and get pieced up. I'm skeptical if he even trained for the fight, and I'd bet money he didn't spar.

Presumably Jones was the biggest payday of his career.

Hard to say no to that.

They've been trying to make that match up since like july 2022.

Ariel reported negotiations were all but finished at the time but Stipe refused the fight because he wasn't getting enough of a pay bump.

After Jones won the title though and he was the only big name left in the division, they offered him a big pay day.

He walked away a few million richer.

Sucks he had to take that much damage, but happy he can walk away, content with his retirement and enough money to last a lifetime.

He probably had a bit left in the tank (even though he was clearly well past his prime) when it was first announced ages ago, and just held on for the payday in the time since.

Word on the street is Stipe had 5million reasons to take this fight… also a shot at beating the overall GOAT is a pretty big deal for a UFC HW goat like Stipe.

Ever hear of a rhetorical question? Also waiting for the Jones simps to say Stipe was ready for war and Jon is just that good.
Considering I just asked you a rhetorical question and you seriously replied to it, this is rather ironic.

So you just made a pointless thread to fight about some shit that is also pointless, and there are a million threads on the very topic anyway.

Go to hell. I'm out.

Money doesn't grow on trees man. Stipe made decent money in the UFC but he's only 42. Still has bills to pay and a family to feed.

He was the greatest HW of all time and a nice bag on the way out the door and a chance to fight the man considered greatest is the answer any common dufus could conclude. When Jones is involved people lose sensibilities and ask things like this

"I'd bet money he didn't even spar" get off your high horse, TS. Stipe came back after a massive layoff years past his prime and gave his best shot at beating someone who has never lost and who many people think is the best fighter of all time.

I'm sorry he didn't meet your completely unrealistic, Kentucky Fried standards. Why don't you put down the Costco sized bag of chips and show everyone how easy it is to train for a fight and survive the brutal ground and pound Stipe did in round 1.

The guy probably got offered the biggest paycheque of his life and accepted it. Who in the hell is going to fault him for that? Blame the UFC, don't blame the fighter like a jealous slob

He looked ok and had some of his stand up rushes where he pushes forward throwing punches while almost jogging like when he knocked out Werdum. Where I was surprised is that he couldn't do better on the ground I guess Jon Jones ground game is better than I thought. He looks like he doesn't train grappling at all.
