Eddie Alvarez, who was the LW champ when Conor was the FW champ.

There's no such thing as a "natural" anything in a sport where everyone cuts as much weight as they possibly can. It simply means Conor could've A) fought (non-champion) fighters who can cut to 145 or B) fought (champion) fighters who can cut to 155. The latter is usually more difficult.

You guys are obsessed with the idea of defending the title, he took the right decision for his body and financially by going up a division, and if you think he should have turned down the Mayweather fight down for a couple of million to fight Khabib instead, then there's a reason why he's sitting in a mansion and you in your mams basement. Because he went to fight against Mayweather, of course Sherdoggers will say he was scared and it had nothing to do with the biggest pay day of his life lol. He even came back to fight Khabib who would have been his opponent, yet the narrative still doesn't fit for haters.

Mayweather was why they had the interim in the mean time with Tony. He still had plenty of time to defend after that. He fought Mayweather in August. He could have taken off the rest of the year to enjoy himself and still have a camp to defend in the spring, but still had no interest. Tony vs Khabib wasn’t booked until that April. He had plenty of leeway.

Not sure if Khabib was on his radar but he would have had to fight Tony or Khabib in his first defense.

True but you are talking about someone that did both. He came in at the perfect time with the perfect opponent for him and retired again so he didn't have to fight Whittaker. GSP was smart with it. There is a reason why other champions don't risk going up to challenge the champion in a higher division and prefer to defend against contenders in their division instead.

Long title defenses is an accomplishment that few can do, so I put that similar to double champ status - because that is also something few can do. Most either do one or the other, GSP was able to do both.

You can argue the same about Conor. Eddie Alvarez was never a dominant champ, had chin issues and was already on the decline when Conor faced him. You could say Conor picked the easiest champ to beat in Eddie similarly to GSP picking out Bisping. Plus abandoned both belts because the contenders were a bigger risk than the champs he had beat - especially Tony and Khabib.

What a stupid notion. The champion is the highest ranked fighter in a division. Beating them by definition is harder than beating somebody ranked below them as they're supposed to be better.

Defending is supposed to be against someone worse lol.

Yes, defeating champions at weight classes higher than you is easier than beating non-champions at lower/the same weight class...

Its high risk low reward. He usually fights low risk high reward (Mayweather, Nate Diaz at WW so his reputation is not on the line etc.) Or as a last resort, high risk high reward (khabib, also), but never high risk low reward ( Aldo rematch, RDA, Nate Diaz at LW etc.)
