Why Can't UFC Book the Flyweight Division?

LFA have done shows in Brazil, does that mean they're not regional?

Come on, man.

This is pure silliness.

We're talking about how UFC treats Rizin. To give a dude from there an instant title shot is bizarre. They just signed RDR from ONE and he's getting unranked GM3 in his debut... the UFC signs guys from PFL and Bellator and doesn't give them instant title shots.

I love the discussion and people giving push back, but this is a silly, silly point to bring up lol

Floyd and Pacquiao have fought there. It's a legit organization. You don't know what you're taking about. They've always had some of the best flyweights like Kape. Jiri was champ there too

Jiri came in and got 2 UFC strikers before he got a title shot, which is par for the course for an established 30 fight veteran on a 10 fight streak.

And yes, not that it's in any way related, but Floyd had fought in Rizin.

Kai Asakura is getting a tremendous amount of love for beating Bellator level guys Dana shits on most weeks. He's on a two fight win streak, has been losing every 2 or 3 fights, and literally has a loss to Manel Kape who the UFC wouldn't give a title shot to in a million years.

The best current UFC fighter the average casual might know that Asakura beat and didn't then lose to is Alateng Heili, and even then a casual almost certainly won't know who that is.

By all means give Kai a highly ranked opponent - but Pantoja for the belt? Hell nah, it cheapens the UFC by the way the UFC want to run themselves.

It's a desperation move pure and simple. Do they even have any elite footage of the guy for the reels? Lol

I'll also add.... Asakura is huge, and who even knows if he can make 125 per US standards. Japan hasn't exactly been known for elite weight cutting.

Yes, co. You even watch outside the UFC @PrideNverDJust bro? ;)

Just kidding about that last part, you're obviously very knowledgeable, I'm just giving a little needle back, all love!!

Edit: messed that up. Archuleta got his weight wrong, but Asakura is still big.

Everything takes time. 125 is In a weird spot after Figgy left and Morono lost. Pantoja has beat all the top guys. Kind of reminds me of LHW with less name value.

Anyways, if 135 can have "names" then there's no reason 10lbs makes a difference. It's just ufc doesn't have any stars. The division just needs to grow.

UFC needs more matchmakers imo. Two is not enough to manage a roster of 600+. Some divisions are very much neglected.

I feel like each division should have its own matchmaker tasked with overseeing the entire division. Those who don't perform well (a high number of boring fights, no stars created, poor depth, etc.) get fired.

I still think it's a joke they cut a 24 year old undefeated contender with 7 ufc wins because "he's hard to deal with" and is boring. Mokaev should be fighting for the title not on the regional scene.

They are working on making 125 division exciting. They are dumping people that grapple without finishing in favor of strikers. They want you to bang in that division. They dumped that Muhammed Dagi wrestler because he was a menace behind the scenes and he wrestles too much. I felt they should have signed Gooch but he is expensive and he is perceived as boring in the eyes of the UFC. I don't think Asukara is that good but I am willing to eat crow.

I love these "we can do it better" threads.

BRB one group is raking in millions a year actually doing it, while the others are writing threads about their fantasy matchups.

If you're convinced you can do it better, quit yackin about it, start a promotion and do it.

When's our first show?

That sounds very feasible. The current matchmaker could become the "chief" or "managing" matchmaker who validates the decisions of the subordinates. (I suspect they wouldn't want all the matchmakers to have equal authority.)

But it can’t be a timing thing if he is fighting 3 weeks earlier right?

Like I realize you’re not Dana/Mick so not trying to corner you into defending the booking lol, but it just makes no sense imo, unless we get to “he doesn’t sell as well” which everyone knows is the reason, but can’t say out loud.
Moreno vs Alibazi was booked initially in Feb when a win over Kai wasn't as good.
The match has been announced for a while to headline a Fightnight in Canada.

Asakura wasn't signed at the time it was made. They might have gotten Asakura by offering the title shit.
They did it with Giblert back in the day.

I think in terms of the next contender fighting you are spot on though.

They gave Chandler a shot within a single fight, Jiri had one within 2-3 (says more about LHW) and 135 had Soto vs Dillashaw back in the day after Renan slipped in the bath tub, so it has happened.

Isn't Asakura's claim to fame going 1-1 with the Gooch, 1-1 with Manel Kape and he has a good win over Juan Archelata who has started his downward spiral sadly after looking good outside the UFC a few years ago. Weird title shot now I look at it more.

If the UFC can't get people interested in a guy pulling off flying armbar suplexes, why even bother?

Why are we still here talking about their total incompetence at booking a division that has had some of the highest level athletes of all time?
The athletic talent part has no bearing on it, its just an insincere way to deflect the anger you feel that the fight consuming public isn't feeling it.

Unarguably you could find 90-100 lbs middle school boys who are capable of insane athletic feats and have them fight Ammy MMA. No one would care to watch it though, because no one cares to watch 100 lb kids fight (in addition to the now obvious pedaphile over tones ... It wasnt a great example)

I honestly think that something about men on wrong side of 5 foot and that light of a body weight doesn't satisfy whatever primal functions light up when dudes watch sports.

Im glad the ufc realizes. Nothing worse then when an institution tries to tell its customers what they should be interested.
