Why are there so many odd names in UFC?

Folk around the world dont name their kids with just the pool of names that you are comfortable with OP.

My first name is Som. Have not found another yet

And these are all good-old American boys, let me remind you. Starnes is an exception though.

Feel free to add to the list, if you can..
a lot of those names are just normal names, you're just uncultured.

Wade, Tyson, Brock, Kendall, Carmelo, Gideon, Guy, Gray, Sage, and Roland aren't that odd I feel.
Carmelo..

You know of any Carmelo’s aside from Carmelo Anthony?

I have never met a Carmelo in my life, and if I did, I bet it would be a Black person..

(Black Americans are known for coming up with odd/unusual names..)

Gideon.. You live in the UK.

NO ONE in USA is named Gideon nowadays.

(Verrrrrry uncommon/rare.)

Gray… Sage. How many Gray’s and Sage’s do you know?
I know many people will the last name Gray, in fact I would say it's one of the most common surnames here.

I've heard the other names enough to not consider them odd.

Right. Gray is not an unusual surname. It is an oddddd first name though.

I’ve never met anyone with thee first name Smith, Miller, Black, or White. That would be a first.. and rather odd.

(Very common surnames in USA though.)

Anderson Silva is thee only guy I know with Anderson as his first name.. (I give him an exception though since he’s Brazilian..)

What about Sage? You’ve heard the name Sage before, before Sage Northcutt got big..?

Carmelo is actually an old-fashioned name, not a made up one.

Ah we’ve finally figured out that White people also have ghetto names lol

Simple: People with strange names have to defend themselves from being made fun of from an early age. Fighting becomes second nature and a career doing it is just a part of the natural progression.
I can hear Jim Morisson in the background

Carmelo Anthony is thee only Carmelo I know of..

(I thought it was a new-school or one of a kind name..)
If we go by “this is the only [insert name] that I know”, it’s very limited to our own social/cultural circles and timeframes. So it’s better to research those names first, as it may be that I or you don’t know of it, but yet that name may be common, or in use, or have a historical or religious basis, etc.

For example on Carmelo:

The name Carmelo is of Italian and Spanish origin, derived from the Hebrew word 'Karmel' (כַּרְמֶל), meaning "garden" or "orchard," specifically "God's vineyard". It's strongly linked to Mount Carmel in Israel, symbolizing beauty and fertility, and gained popularity through devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Madonna del Carmelo) and the Carmelite Order, making it a significant religious and cultural name in Mediterranean regions.

Met two dudes yesterday...
<Varys01>
Dawson and Raiden

They sounded like cleaning products.

Colby Covington
I was roommates with a Colby. Pretty nerdy dude, just played video games and went to work. Complained a little when I invited people over to party. But he always paid rent on time so cool in my book.
