Why are the Nordic countries so happy?

I don't know where all these happy Canadians are hiding. Everyone I interact with is seemingly miserable with our joke of a Gov't and all that comes with it
I was in Toronto a couple weeks. I was amazed with how friendly and helpful everyone was. I know it's just a small part and probably doesn't represent Canada but in my mind that's how all Canadians are. Plus gsp seems pretty happy

Yeah actually Toronto is the only part of Canada I've been to and everyone was great. Maybe it's just a happy city

Canadians in general are a lot more easy going than Americans' there's a pretty stark contrast really.

I think it has something to do with the govt programs making it easier to start over in life there.

Whenever I read about Denmark recently, it is usually related to the citizens telling the government to fuck off with their covid laws. I don't think that counts as trust.

Nearly everyone has followed the covid laws to the letter, though, and the government is riding high in the polls. Crazies on facebook are loud, but most of us just shake our heads at them.

The last has to be a lie. Most nordics ive met hate their country unless they are women. And all the Nordic/Scandinvian guys here seem suicidal or depressed

Dafuq? I'm Scandinavian and I'm about as far from suicide and depression as you can get. Happy is the wrong word for how people here feel, though, people are "happy with their lives" e.g. their are content and that is all most people expect. A big part of the secret of happiness is realistic expectations.

Been a lot of bs on social media.
Last year people (were threads in the WR) on social media claimed Denmark was force vaccinating people and there was huge demonstrations against it.
And people online eat it up.

Neither thing happened. There were some demonstrations against the lockdown, but it was a couple hundred people. Real demonstrations in the capital can easily draw up to 20.000 or even 100.000. Nothing else was happening due to the lockdown so it got a lot more attention than it deserved. It was silly.

Damn the Swedes! They are even stealing hotties from the rest of the world through immigration (see pic).

Honestly, I think hotness would be a solid foundation for immigration policy (for both men and women). Forget what you can contribute, nobody is going to complain if the government just let a bunch of hot people into the country (as long as the genders are distributed equally).

The Nordic countries all got the highest scores. This article claims that trust in the government's handling of covid is an important factor, but I don't believe that.

You're talking about 5 different countries--Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands. They all have different governments so I think attributing their happiness to the government might not be the right answer.

But I don't know what is.

Is there something cultural about those areas? Like maybe they shame complainers, so most people always claim to be super happy?

Scandinavians are not happy.

It's a fictive politically correct measurement scale.

Dark in the winter and cold, bitter weather.
Regulations on everything. 20 million introverted people.

Do Scandinavians enjoy higher quality of life? Yes, but life is God awful boring.
