Economy Why are red states broke?

The metric of not living in Arkansas.

50k a year is more than enough to "get buy" in NY... you're not owning anything or living without a roommate or two, but at least you're not in Arkansas.

Yeah looks awful.

Well unfortunately the Department of the Interior doesn't seem like a position where putting a YIMBY would have too much affect on urban planning but compared with the other picks announced this one is about as good as it gets.

What about the Freedom Cities? 😎 Heh.

California is so awesome that people are fleeing it in record numbers and then moving to commen sense red states.

It's funny how the emotional left think they own states because they are blue. Have you taken a look at how 98% of those states are red? The weirdo liberal big cities are the only blue on the map.

Who cares? The Republicans haven't been in charge for 30 years, so even the times when the democrats were in charge of the economy, they were still among the poorest States.

In a situation like that, you may as well vote for the Party with whom your personal values most align.

That's a terrible way of looking at it.

When Biden was in power, MAGA loyalists voted against everything Democrats proposed. Things passed anyways because they were good things and "conservative" doesn't always mean "moron".

A lot of red states did well DESPITE their representatives, but that didn't prevent those representatives from taking credit for things they voted AGAINST.

I know you don't give a flying fuck about the good of the American people and just want to watch it all burn down, but it's really frustrating that these discussions aren't happening in good faith. Whenever I see a thread criticizing a red or blue state I wince because it's the wrong angle. There are very real issues that have very possible solutions but they will NEVER be resolved focusing on personal values. If Blue and Red politicians cared more about the people than their careers they'd find a lot of these solutions working together, but that's never, ever going to happen.

I'm more discouraged now than I've ever been before. Democracy in America is failing for exactly the same reasons communism always fails, people are selfish and deeply flawed. I'm not loading all the blame on conservative politicians here, they're all monsters devouring the same victims, the American people.

Main thought: There is a lot of poverty in every single state. All we should care about is why and what has to be done. People need to look at the problems through an unbiased lens and stop blindly trusting the politicians. Qualifier on that thought: Everyone needs to be considered, not just the impoverished.

I thought it was 8.4 trillion.

But everyone was popping bottles under a false economy forgetting we were in a good situation, he did that to make everyone adore him and then fucked us over when the new bad guys had to fix his terrible economy.

Again, blissfully unaware of the 8.4 trillion.

He ran on Obama and the debt. Proceeded to make it worse. lol

We gained population last year . Lmfao. You dumb fuck. California is so bad that we have 40 million people here you broke fuck

I agree... looks awful. That has to be one of the most boring landscapes one could photograph in the US. And that town looks like a place that where the most exciting thing all year would be when Arbys opened a new location.

I'm with you. Way more "boring" to have a house and a yard with trees and nature and a place to raise a family than the wonderful excitement of sharing a studio apartment with 6 other guys and stepping over 12 bums who OD'd on your way to a piss covered subway car where another bum just had a public freakout and pushed an elderly Chinese lady onto the tracks.

I mean what kind of boring ass place doesn't even have a poop map?

I lived in The Bay Area for years, it's funny how everyone who's never even been there refers to it as having to share a studio apartment with 6 other guys. I didn't have to do that, and neither does anyone else I knew there. Who are those people?

The real reason as to why the south is generally poor is that Reconstruction got cut short due to the North losing patients and interesting in rebuilding the South and the South dragged their feet for another hundred plus years holding back the productivity of black citizens through systemically racist policies. It never was rebuilt after the civil war and you had a significant portion of the population locked out of the economy. The south has through its reputation scared away skilled workers and throwning away decades of economic growth.

Generally, discriminatory policies have negative impacts on economies. Whether they be against LGBT, women, minorities, or immigrants. The most liberal groups in some cities is the Chamber of Commerce as they often are desperately wanting skilled workers to move to the area. I have a friend that is pathologist and there is a very good pathology program in Birmingham, Alabama. They called him up to tell him that he was accepted and he turned it down because he didn't want to live in Birmingham due to its reputation. He could tell by their reaction that they struggle to get people to want to join their program even though it is prestigious.

Your friend turned down a "prestigious" program because he didn't want to live in a 70% black city because of its "reputation"? Is your friend's name David Duke, or did he instead decide it would be better to fight racism from Vermont?
