Why are people forgetting Diaz is a triathlonathlete and just destroyed Michael Johnson?

Perhaps but none of those guys is going to bring in the money fighting a Diaz will. Which brings me to my original point.

Nate was the money fight, no doubt about it.

Khabib and Ferguson are nightmare matchups that would sell less tickets. Alvarez is in the middle.

Nate is the least prepared, least dangerous and biggest payday. It's a no brainer how this got booked. If I was Conor and the UFC I would have made the exact same decision.

With a win Conor gets to fight RDA another day or move on to welterweight if he so chooses. This is simply a big pay day holding fight.

I do hope in the future we get to see Nate and Conor fight when both are prepared, I think it will be a lot more fun.

1. He didn't destroy him. He clowned him.

2, because nobody cares about michael johnson

MJ's
Never even remotely close to a finish, no 10-8 rounds, lost a round on the scorecards.

That's called a win.

I hold a higher standard for the word dominance.

Examples- jones vs DC win
Anderson vs Forrest dominance

Anybody that uses crappy UFC judging in an argument is not worth debating with. Diaz won every round easily.

Beating a fighter every minute of a fight without hurting them in some ways is even more dominate. It's easy to make a rocked fighter look foolish, but to make a fresh fighter look foolish for 15 minutes takes a lot more skill.

This is the truth - but no one will admit it. The ufc does not want their goose derailed.

It's all true but it's still much better for the fans to see McGregor fight rather than pull out and reschedule.

Agree to disagree then. The fact that Jones DOMINATED for 25 minutes is more of a statement than a 3 min 23 sec stoppage IMO. The point is, Nate is a talented fighter. I don't think he will beat Conor. I just agree with the basis of TS's post, that people are underestimating Nate's abilities. If he can pull guard and get McG to follow him, its tap city. 99% chance that won't happen, sure. I am interested to see the boxing exchange though. Conor could prove more in this fight than Mendes or Aldo IMO. I like both guys once they step inside the cage. Not crazy about Conor or the brothers' Diaz once you put a mic in front of them.

This man is also a triathlete

This is going to be a good fight. If Diaz was in fight shape he should be a slight favorite. he's just physically much larger than anyone Conor has faced, and Conor relies a lot on his length.

He has lost 8 of his last 16 fights... thats why.

diaz admitted to being out of shape at the press conference. Mgregor is winning this fight I think, I dunno the only time we saw nate diaz out of shape he got embarrassed and destroyed. He is not coming in shape, he has a good chin so it might even be a decision but hes losing this fight i think.
Diaz's definition of being out of shape is probably different than most UFC fighters. Just sayin...

And remember how badly Diaz clowned Ceronne who beat Benson?

None of that has anything to do with what I said. Don't sleep on Nate. He's a dangerous fighter.

This, styles make fights. And while RDA is MUCH better than Nate, he's also much more likely to fall exactly like like Aldo and DP did.

Nate is a counterpunchers nightmare, conor will be forced to close the distance or use his kicks to set things up, both of which make him vulnerable to being taken down.

If Conor plays the distance game like he has been recently he'll get boxed up by Nate.

I agree with OP, Diaz is the best choice.

Khabib vs Ferguson is already booked for April. Khabib is injury prone and neither is super marketable.
Pettis just lost to Alvarez and is booked to face Barboza.
Edgar is injured and McGregor can't make 145. A fight at LW does nothing for Edgar who wants the FW belt.

That leaves Alvarez, Cerrone, and Diaz.
Alvarez is a contender, but just grinded out a boring decision vs Pettis. I don't think anyone wants to see that.
Cerrone is always exciting and dangerous. Just fought and is fresh. Is very marketable. Just beat an up and coming prospect in Oliveira.
Diaz just called out McGregor after his last fight where he beat a top 5 guy in Johnson. He is hit or miss against high level guys but always entertaining. Guaranteed to stand and trade.

It comes down to Cerrone or Diaz when it comes to building hype and making money. I think more people want to see Diaz based on his personality especially opposite Conor.

Nick mentioned that sometimes Nate doesn't stay super fit inbetween fights

There is a difference between being in shape and being in fighting shape.

For instance, when I am getting ready for a BJJ tournament I am doing multiple rounds a night for weeks. Once competition is over and I take 2-3 weeks off before getting back in the gym. Those first few days back are rough, even though I have been remaining active running and lifting.

Diaz by Triangle choke. Rd. 1.

Honestly, this is a great fight, and if Diaz were my guy, I'd be asking him to rep that Cesar Gracie BJJ hard.

Make a statement by killing the UFC's new golden goose.

Nate is a top 5 fighter. simple. He just fought 2 months ago. fighters do not just get of shape. They are trained athletes. It would take someone of his caliber many months to get out of shape.
Its clear you've never comoeted in any high kevel athletics or worked on getting in great shape. "In shape" and in fight shape are two entirely different things. Then, peaking is even better. Conor will be speaking for this fight, comparatively Nate will be "out of shape"

Nate is one of my favorite fighters and you are willfully ignorant if you don't realize he's the easiest possible matchup for Conor of the available pool of fighters.

Everyone knows Khabib, Ferguson and Alvarez are all excellent wrestlers. Nate is arguably one of the worst wrestlers in the division, perhaps in the history of the division in modern MMA.

He's a pressure boxer with great cardio who's taking this fight coming off the couch. He hasn't sparred since January and was posting pictures from his vacation in Hawaii if you follow him on social media.

Let's just call it what it is - the least dangerous, most fun fight available.

Conor signed up to fight RDA, which is clearly the toughest fight. He didn't get it, and everyone should recognize plan B wasn't 'who is the second biggest challenge.' The criteria changed.

I'm OK with it.

But, but, Dana now says Nate is in phenomenal shape and was training for a triathlon. :) Trouble is since no one can believe a word Dana White says so going with Nate's own social media pics on vacation might be more accurate. I don't follow those either.

I mean its impossible to re-write documented history.

Nate was just posting from Hawaii and hasn't posted a training pic since December, when there were many. He launched a line of shirts with BJ Penn and you can see photos on twitter and IG of them together for the announcement a few weeks ago.

Diaz straight up said at the press conference 'how many rounds did you spar this month?' clearly saying it wasn't fair to talk about weight advantage when Nate hasn't even had a chance to train.

He's literally coming into a fight without having sparred.

there...u said it all..agree wid you..." least dangerous...most fun fight" spot on bro

Without the Johnson win, I wouldn't of said Diaz was a top 15 LW right now.
Fair play, its a fill in fight, but it isn't really any more legit than Silva vs Irving was. Stylistically, you couldn't make a better fight for Conor to win. Hes a slow, plosding striker that only moves in straight lines, with a quality ground game, and no way to use it. Literally anyone else in the top 10 at LW is a harder fight
