Who's your NBA MVP? ***UPDATE: Poll Added***

Not all advanced stats are created equal

yea I know, I dont even like most advanced stats, many factors are unquantifible, but using an advanced stat and saying it's science one way, I used another advanced stat to say it's another

+\- per 100 possessions isn't that advanced of a stat imo. It's pretty straight forward.

either way, their advanced stats are pretty similar....

and they are:
Harden: 27.7, 6.9 apg, 44.3/38.1/86.5
Curry: 23.6, 7.7 apg, 48.1/43.5/91.4 (absurd)

4/5 in SPG respectively. curry's DRTG is 101, Harden's is 102 which likely favors Harden considering his team's D is substantially worse, thus negating the team D effect (see Carlos Boozer being top 5 in DRTG a few years ago on the Bulls, i shit you not)

3/4 in PER (Curry 27.6, Harden 27)

TS: Curry 63.2, Harden 60.7 (them FTs...)

EFG: the largest, stark favor for Curry, has Harden by a full 7%, good enough for 3rd in the league, as a GUARD

AST%: Curry 6th in league, Harden 11th

ST%: Curry 4th, Harden 16th

Usage: Curry 9th, Harden 7th

OWS: Curry 10.5, Harden 11.7 (2/3 in the league, behind CP3). Harden does lead the league in Minutes, it must be said

DWS: both at 4.0, tied for 10/11th in league

WS: 15.7-15.1, advantage Harden

WS/48: Curry .283, Harden .269 (1/3 in the league)

in reality, it's very very close, and kind of a matter of substance. Curry is the much more appealing player to watch, Harden has one of the worst teams i've ever seen at the #2 seed so far in the season. it's a toss up really

Beyond the individual stats, Curry just makes his teammates better. I already posted the on/off offensive ratings (Curry has a significantly greater impact than Harden). Consider that coming into this season, Curry's supporting starting lineup cast had an average PER that was below the league average for ALL NBA PLAYERS, and Curry has taken that supporting cast and turned it into the best offense in the league.

GSW net Offensive Rating with Curry on the floor vs off: +16.2

HOU net Offensive Rating with Harden on the floor vs off: +11.1

GSW net eFG% with Curry on the floor vs off: +.063

HOU net eFG% with Harden on the floor vs off: +.018

i'm not sure that's curry as much as it is Kerr and the inevitable improvements of thompson and green (independent of curry. thompson developed playing w/ USA basketball).

I see what you're saying, but i just watch both teams. the Warriors can use holliday or livingston at the PG when curry is sitting, and ya there's a dropoff but livingston is certainly servicable. when harden isn't playing, the rockets are straight up fucked, especially now w/o an actual PG outside of Prigioni. who's gonna create, Terry? Ariza? corey brewer? w/ DMO out, they ahve like zero iso options outside of Harden.

the warriors could abuse smaller guys on the block all day w/ livingston, bogut can score down low iso'd, and klay developed an iso game outta nowhere, Iguo can create for himself a lil. worst case scenario, bring in David Lee, whom can still score at will and get boards when he actually plays

very true. and that's a great pt. i just believe, that the voters will look at the rockets as the #2 seed (which means they are by record, a huge contender. we know that's not realistic in terms of P/Os though) with all those injuries and that shitty ass roster..... then when you see that their #s are pretty damn even, i don't know.

one guy is making his team, a very very good team, better by playing the best ball of his life. although i'm thinking Kerr has more to do w/ that then people realize. Then you have harden, playing the best ball of his life as well, dragging the worst team i've ever seen to a high playoff seed.

i know you dismay the help another All Star quality player brings, but the ascension of Thompson is what i believe will hurt Curry the most. It still allows him to hide on D (although he, like Harden, are way better than they were previously), and takes less pressure off.

Harden has 60 year old Terry, Brewer and Ariza; and yet he's leading the league in assisted 3s, not Curry or Lillard (although barely). I feel that Harden, like CP3 in some years, would be the favorite if he didn't have such an unappealing style to most people

faust nobody read that post in 2013, the hell makes you think we're gonna read it now LOL

rockets aren't legit contenders but neither is g-state. they got bounced by the slippers last year LOL

it took me 12 minutes to see what faust just did there

good jerb m8 :)

he had to make extra sure we saw his Nostradamian skills from a few years back, respect

Yeah I'm all about having my posts at the top of new pages. Posting at the bottom of pages is for poor people LMAO!!

whether your posts are on the top or bottom makes hardly any difference since nobody reads them anyway LMFAO!!!!

Lol @ Faust. He's practically begging us to read that novel from 2013

Whoah. I was just reading my pro-Curry rant from that 2013 thread and I gotta say, I pretty much nailed it. Here's another post (keep in mind this was before Curry had even made his first AllStar team):

I'm not saying Curry makes Lee the player that Lee is, I'm saying the player that Lee is = empty stats for the most part. Lee has been a borderline 20-10 virtually his entire career, but even without looking it up, I'm thinking this is the first winning team he's ever contributed to. What that says to me is that he probably isn't capable of being the best player for a winning team.

Mark Jackson coached last season's debacle without Curry. I do think Golden State's defense has improved as a direct result of Jackson's coaching, but this improvement simply wouldn't make much of a difference in the W/L column without what Curry does for them on offense. His ability to get efficient shots for both himself and his teammates allows GS to put rotation players on the floor who are far more defensive-minded than guys like Monta Ellis or Nate Robinson or Dorell Wright (all guys that GS heavily relied upon to score points for them in the past). Yes, David Lee would still get his 20ppg on this team without Curry, but he would very likely be the only consistent producer on offense and the team would be garbage again.

It's almost as if Steve Kerr decided to take David Lee out of the rotation in favor of the defensive minded Draymond Green
