The champion or the challenger?

Legit question.

I would imagine it's Conor, and if this is the case, has there ever been a fight where the Champion was paid less than the challenger?

It's obviously Conor. He's worth more to the UFC than Aldo.

Real answer: No one in this thread has any idea.

Keep in mind a fighters pay is often reflective of when they signed their contracts and how long they are for. So a fighter who is a big star and then signs a contract, like Brock Lesnar, will make a lot more than a fighter who signs a contract then becomes a big star, like Conor. I'm not sure if there are details about the length of Conor's initial contract or how recently it was renegotiated. Ultimately though, when he does renegotiate I expect him to be making boat loads more than Aldo...unless he loses....

Conor

If Aldo beats him, Conor would still get paid more

if UFC could, they would buy Aldos title and give it to Conor

Aldo being the champ gets a bigger cut of the pvp share. Which is where most of their money will come from.

That's what I'm thinking. But if it's just a case of "who can bring in the most numbers", why doesn't the UFC just invite Justin Bieber to fight?

You say that as if they wouldn't if Justin Bieber showed interest in it

Ya, but what I'm wondering is whether or not Dana will claim that Conor is the interim "champ", and somehow disrupt this distribution to Aldo.

They are trying with CM Punk.

Bieber probably makes more than the UFC could ever afford to pay. No reason for top celebs to do it.

McGregor claimed to have made 8 figures in his fight against Mendes. Aldo has always been an underpaid champion. I think we have an idea.

I don't know, over 10 million dollars for a non-title fight seems extremely exaggerated. Especially since Conor has not actually sold anywhere near the top fighters like GSP, Lesnar, or Ronda. If he was pulling in a million PPV buys a fight maybe, but not currently.

Considering GSP said he was making ~ 5 million per fight with higher ppv buys, champion contract, better and more endorsement. Definitely exaggerated.

that belt conor got was more for getting him payed more i think

He claims to be getting a 100million dollar contract.

Although if there's any hint of reality on that it would likely be dependent on him winning 10 consecutive fights with 1million+buys for each, there'd have to be a lot of caveats making it almost impossible to pay as much as he's claiming. Like Nate Diaz agreed to a contract that was only going to pay big if he kept winning then he lost a couple and started crying about how bad his contract was.

Whereas Aldo has never reached the PPV threshold to start making the PPV money.

Considering Conner Vs Mendes was put together at short notice is still sold very well.

I don't think the numbers were ever officially confirmed but it was meant to be closing in on a million buys.

Conor via Dana bj

No that was the first fight deal, it's via hj for the second fight.

I wonder if Dana knows how OBVIOUS it is that as an employer, he should play favorites.
