We all know Chimaev won the first fight, in the first round, with the brilliant side-step uppercut.

Odds are, that wouldn't happen again.

With Aliskerov's maturation, and Khamzat proving he can't really last more than 1.5 rounds, who wins the return match at 185?

Watching Aliskerov today, he's a little sluggish, fights with his mouth wide-open, but he is powerful and devastating. My thinking is, if Aliskerov clenches with Khamzat for 1-to-2 rounds, he beats the dog sht out of him in rounds 3-5, likely stopping him.

Agree/Disagree?

They are at different points of their career. I don't think they will fight anytime soon.

Seriously? The storyline is already built in. Aliskerov wins 1/2 more or Chimaev loses against Strickland then they'll be fighting in the coming year.

I'd pick them both to beat Pereira. That's for sure

I like aliskerov, he seems like a humble and respectful guy unlike khamzat and that shara bullet guy. Only thing is I have to question his chin after what khamzat did to him the first time

Their first fight was at a catchweight since Khamzat was at WW and Ikram MW. He had a bad cut IIRC. We see in UFC he is HOOGE for MW his chin was drained from the cut 1st fight IMO

After a couple more fights, I actually think Aliskerov has better prospects to reach the top and stay there. More disciplined, physically looks tremendously strong with KO power compared to skinny Chimaev whom I thought would build more into the weight class:

I wouldn't.

Ikram Aliskerov just beat the 5'11" Warlley Alves — who came up from 170.
That doesn't translate to beating the 6'4" Alex Pereira, who just moved up 185 to 205 – and has already been a Champion in both weight higher classes.

By the same token, Khamzat Chimaev just beat the 6'0", Kamaru Usman — also coming up from 170.
That also doesn't translate to beating the 6'4" Alex Pereira, a former Champion in a higher weight class (205) than either Aliskerov or Chimaev has ever competed at.

Because of the wrestling, these shorter middleweights might have a chance for 1.5 rounds, but if either can't finish Alex early, both get flatlined by Alex late.

They are small, tiny fighters compared to Alex Pereira.

Uhhh khamzat def put on a substantial amount of muscle

Ikram looks like a beast with a solid jab to cut range, let combos fly and great killer instinct.
It'll be interesting to see how his cardio holds up though because I do feel like Hawes and Alves landed quite a bit of damage in their own right despite getting melted so I think more technical MW's like Imavov or Caio Barralho with good footwork that wouldn't be overwhelmed so easily would be great tests.

Great offensive fighter but the rest of his game is still to be determined I'd pick Khamzat right now though since he is the more proven guy and the fact I'm going off the idea neither guy can hold their pace for a full fight.

What storyline? It's a guy he already beat and he isn't ranked. They are definitely not fighting in the coming year.

They've got a rivalry. Aliskerov hasn't lost since Chimaev beat him and has looked damn good. Lol at "rankings" meaning anything. Ask DDP.

wouldn’t be the first time pereira was taken down and controlled by a welterweight. michaelidis controlled him pretty easily from what i recall.

And from what I can recall, after spending himself trying to keep Pereira down (and failing), Michaelidis got pole-axked with a flying switch knee, when Pereira got up the next round.

Which is pretty much my point, these little guys are not to be able to keep Pereira down.

Even former 205 LHW Champ, Jan Błachowicz, couldn't keep Pereira down for more than a round. Jan survived Pereira, but he was almost put away in the second.

These little guys are not going to to be able to keep Alex down, and they sure as hell are not going to be able to take Alex' punches like the much larger Jan could.
