Who was the best at slipping punches?

Folks it hurts me to say it

Definitely his best performance.

Silva I think will be number one. But who else sticks out? It is a hell of a skill to possess. And it is pretty fleeting.

I'm wondering if Ali was just that good or it was a "phantom punch" scenario where the other guy got a special message before the fight.

Sweat P was robbed in most of his losses. He's one of the best boxers of all time and the best defensive boxer of all time.
I don't entirely disagree but he had his moments where he could be goaded into reckless exchanges, him and Willie Pep where both certainly up there, as were RJJ and SRL as far as all time defensive greats go.

Then version 2.0 arrived on the scene and put up numbers nobody is even a close second too for connect ratios and punches absorbed percentages.

As I'm sure you are already aware this man was Floyd Mayweather.

Fuck yeah, love a Sweet Pea shout out, he's the man that got me into Boxing.

Prime RJJ (Anderson's inspiration) is an obvious answer as well as Money and now a days Lomo.
Prime Pernell beats Prime Floyd in my opinion. RJJ is way bigger so it's hard to judge across weight classes: RJJ's footwork was always questionable; but his reaction time and hand speed were off the charts.

This is some random fool showing how to slip punches in street fights.

One of my fave vids. It's intuitive in nature most ppl just don't handle tension well eye to eye, and lock up. But it's an easy fix.

I highly doubt that but it would be a great fight regardless between my 2 all time favorites.

Floyd was basically the upgraded version of Pernell which is what drew me to him in the first place when he turned pro.

floyd was more careful. Pernell was faster

Someone post the gif of Roy Jones taunting James Toney and Toney tries to taunt him back and get dropped. Prime Roy Jones was probably the best at slipping punches I’ve ever seen, that guy was so fucking quick.

Not even sure that's true of Floyd prior too getting up to 147 but I'm not going to disparage Sweet Pea anymore than saying I doubt prime for prime he beats Floyd.

One billion people watched the thrilla in Manilla. The Philippine government rounded up all the people they thought might be criminals and locked them up under specially built cells right under the stadium just in case for 3 days. What is a good UFC ppv? 800k?

"The bout is consistently ranked as one of the best in the sport's history and was the culmination of a three-bout rivalry between the two fighters that Ali won, 2–1.[5][6][7] The fight was watched by a record global television audience of 1 billion viewers,[8] including 100 million viewers watching the fight pay-per-view on closed-circuit theatre television[9] and 500,000 pay-per-view buys on HBO home cable television.[10]"

Ali, the most recognized person in the last 100 years, was that good.

RJJ was the most insanely gifted boxer I've ever seen, but burning twice as bright and twice as fast hurts him in an all time sense.

I think Floyd's reach and piston right gives sweet pea fits but I loved pernell as youngster and grew to appreciate Floyd over time.

In mma, I'd shout out Edgar, rampage come to mind.

Deivison Flyweight recently has shown uncanny slips throughout firefights

prime Oscar only won by a gift decision against Pernell (very near the end of his career) after Pernell made him look stupid. But prime Floyd could only barely beat a basically retired Oscar.

Rampage is a good shoutout
Stipe in the Ngannou fight showed some really good slipping skills
But in MMA it is Anderson Silva undisputed

This dude has talent no doubt but he's fighting bums off the street. Someone of his relative skill would tag him a lot more with his hands down like that, not to mention if they thew in body shots or god forbid leg kicks. That's not to say this guy personally wouldn't adapt just fine to that but head movement is just one defensive tool, chin down hands and eyes up and distance control are just as important.

For most, but almost all the best defensive fighters ever had a very low guard
