Yeah, the media is really keen to paint them and other right-wing groups (like the Three Percenters) with the same brush as actual extremist white supremacy groups who were also there (i.e. The Daily Stormers). However, since Gavin disowned The Proud Boys, they've increasingly steered into their most extremist tendencies, and since they organized this protest, they have to own that.

The FBI has made it clear they don't assess any meaningful threat from the Proud Boys, and at worst, those guys share quite a few political beliefs with groups that are genuinely white nationalist, but they are not white nationalists themselves-- at least not yet. They're not like The Daily Stormers or Heimbach's now-defunct Traditionalist Worker Party, but with events like this, there is going to be increasing in-linking and crossover. They are not headed in the right direction, and the first poster nailed it when he said they're becoming the right-handed version of #antifa rather than remaining above and morally superior to that group. The Oath Keepers were wise to stay away.

All that being said the group the FBI probably takes the most seriously is The Three Percenters. These are the kinds of groups that showed up to the Bundy protests and assumed sniper positions because they like to play toy soldier (another was Patriot Prayer). Homegrown pro-militia groups like that are the ones the FBI assesses as having the highest level of threat in the present day; above even most white supremacist groups like The Daily Stormers.

Any smart right-winger would stay away, and just let #antifa continue to toxify their own brand of politics with their outrageous behavior.

The scene in Belgium is different than in the USA. The guy is/was a loose cannon. One of the things he and other guys would do was go to Irish pubs where right wing catholic student organizations were holding a meeting, they'd punch them and steal their hats. They kept them as trophies.

Most of them are absolute dorks, that was the point of this though. They do kickboxing but they absolutely suck at it, then they band up and pretend they're fighting the Ostheer. A couple of them have been in combat sports since a kid and they're the ones giving free training in squatted houses.

I do not say this to brag about him. I think it's weak to pick on people with no combat training, regardless of their affiliations.

The other side of this, is the neo-nazis walking around in smaller cities with a high student population, carrying brass knuckles and assaulting people with dreadlocks or other people that look leftist.

OH, this is a funny one. I just remembered this. There was a guy, a leader of a far right student group here, and he was attacked one night in my city. He went crying on television about it (even though they were looking for a fight) and years later I saw him standing on the corner of a nature reserve, talking to people about the nature organization he was a part of. He looked so sad as he was selling "beaver safaris". I guess they punched him right into hippy land.

To be fair, I don't know anything about the political scene in Belgium and how bad the right wingers are. And, for all I know, the left there really is the bully like you see whiny conservatives say it is here.

In the United States, even the more "moderate" and dignified right wing groups like FedSoc, where it's a bunch of rich kids in boat shoes and polo shirts chuckling about their classmates working at Pizza Hut to pay through school, deserve to get their asses kicked. I'm not going to flagellate myself for enjoying seeing/hearing about it happening.
