Volk, winning the belt at 36 is remarkable and beating max 3 times is also a great feat

Also looks better until you look at their losses, then I think the Volkswagen passes him

Volk, in quality value.

He almost beat Islam, another Goat.
+
the wins over Aldo and Holloway in their primes.

Aldo probably wins in quantity value.

....but I think if Volk can get two more wins, I think his resume will be slightly better quality that surpasses Aldo's quantity(not that Aldo's competition had any slouches, 3x holloway when he was on a tear + Aldo himself is just hard to beat).

Gut says Volk due to quality of opponents, but may be recency bias.. both should be recognized for the rest of their lives as greats though, no disrespect

edit: Should have made this a poll!

Aldo. But if Volk would have gotten the nod over Islam it would be him. Dana white also did kinda screw over Aldo not letting him move up to face pettis .

Well, I watched Aldo back in WEC, well before his UFC fights. So I am quite familiar with Jose, who is and was one of my favorite fighters.

But yes, vs Max both times he was at his very best and prime. He just lost cause Max was better plain and simple. And this is when Aldo was champ coming of a great win over Edgar. He looked good vs Max as well winning early rounds, Max just beat him. Aldo after that TKO'd Stephens and Moicano, he had a decision loss to VOlk and then went to BW and was still challenging for titles in 2020. So yes, in 2016/2017 he was in his prime and best.
You're unable to see clear differences between prime Aldo and the one who fought Conor, Holloway and Volk, that's fine.

Would you also say it was a prime Volk who got beat by Topuria? After all, he beat top contender Diego Lopes after and is gunning for Evloev next.

Well, you can't really see differences cause there really weren't any lol. Just cause he lost, doesn't mean he left his prime. Aldo started to lose his prime around 2019/2020

Absolutely that was a prime Volk. Again, he just lost and got caught by a big power puncher after winning the first round. You don't compete with the P4P best in the world a weight class up nearly winning, and then suddenly lose your prime a year later.
