In your opinion - who are the guys that have the skills to stop the vicious grappling of Khabib ?
[FW-LW-WW range] ?

Clearly on the ground is where he is absolutely relentless (his striking is also very high pressure orientated but not nearly as sharpened as his ground skills) - so pretty much every fighter in the UFC that has faced him thus far has focused on trying to keep the fight standing.

And so far every man that has ever faced him has not been successful.

Some fighters were able to shrug off Damien Maia, most noteworthy Anderson Silva who kept the fight standing; but even then showed he was very tentative to engage due to the threat. So the threat of skilled grapplers is always there in the air lingering and fighters know that any second things can get messy.

Mix that with humble but improving and very aggressive striking skills and you got yourself a machine.

BUT. Khabib is a human after-all. SO, who do you think will be able to stop the ruthless take-downs of this current "aura of invincibility" contender?

The most obvious answer would be the current interim champ Tony F, who we were supposed to see fitght a bajillion times by now but seeing as that is already one of the most talked about fights in the mma world let's try to diverge from that.

In this thread, suggest some fighters you think may have the potential to stop the grappling of Khabib Nurmagomedov and explain your reasoning.

HELLwani the man is a demon

Don't let his feminine physique and little boy smiles and anorexic lanky body fool you, the man is a ROCK.

My man.

We never really saw Aldo's ground game because he was very good at it, but used the abilities to KEEP the fight standing. Very solid defensive wrestling but he loved using his Muay Thai abilities. Also a fucking black belt in Jiu-jitsu but again, just kept the fight standing where he had the most fun.

Pretty much great at the 3 best schools of fighting, not surprising that he is one of the top 5 fighters of all time.

Maybe Edgar, but then again maybe not

Edgar is the type of fighter that would be unpredictable and out of nowhere ,shoot for ,and successfully complete a takedown ON Khabib. Haha.

But will never happen.

I think Jose Aldo vs Khabib if Aldo decides to ever move up to LW would be an insane fight.

Fuck, Aldo mixed in LW with all the other sharks in an already overcrowded population of contenders gives me a huge solid MMA boner.

Consistently enough to win:

FW: Prime Aldo
LW: Prime BJ
WW: Woodley, GSP, probably Usman, probably even Rory. Prime Hendricks easily. Askren. More most likely at WW.

EDIT: Maia would probably be the one trying to take Khabib down lol.

Khabib right now is the closest thing we have to a mixed martial artist retiring as a 30-0 or more champion. It would hurt to see him get his first loss, but it will likely occur. Boxing has a bunch of these 40-0, 50-0 champions that retired but so far in mma the best we got is Jon Jones at 22–1 (1) .. Which easily could have been 24-0 if not for Jon himself fucking up. Perhaps even close to or at 30-0, but Jon is Jon and that is what it is. GSP also came close if not for the Matts.

Just a small little obsession of mine. Undefeated fighters that are fighting at the champion level just have such a great aura about them and makes watching their fights more exciting.

Anybody else ever got your nerves tightening up every time Anderson Silva got into the cage? At 13-0, 14-0, 15-0 etc. and just knowing that he won his fights in such a spectacular showing really got my blood pumping.

It's hard to say because he really doesn't rely on the traditional single or double leg shot from distance too often. He uses chain wrestling against the cage. And in addition to being really strong (which he is), he also knows EVERY trick in the book to get guys to the mat once he has them pressed against the cage. Ankle picks, trips, judo throws, etc. He "rocks the boat" (what we called it at my gym when I trained) as good as anyone I've seen. (Meaning he shifts his and his opponents weight back and forth but at varying intervals that makes them guess when he's going to attempt to drag them to the mat).

The thing is, (as has been pointed out numerous times), it's a very taxing style. We've never seen him do it for more than 3 rounds, nor against someone as offensively capable off their back. (RDA is a beast grappler but not the same offensive threat that Tony is off his back). In addition, Tony just doesn't get tired. So it will be very interesting to see what kind of energy Khabib has if this goes past round 2 and he's using the amount of energy he normally does.

But yeah, GSP likely out-points Khabib in a not-so fun to watch 4 or 5 rounds UD.

This may in fact change the course of the fight in the later rounds. They both know this. So while Khabib and team train to prepare for those rounds, Tony and team so the same, perhaps conserving more energy than usual in the first 2-3 and then having Tony take it up a notch in the ladder rounds to try to go for a finish if possible.

All in all, I know that it will be an amazing fight - I don't think I have look forward to fight with such anticipation for a long time.

I have a feeling it will not be the last time that they meet either.
