Social Which Time Period would you thrive in?

One of the things that scare me the most of the medieval period is the torture and execution methods. If they accuse of witchcraft or heresy you're fucked. With some of the ways they'd torture you, you'd wish they would just cut your head off.

I absolutely agree! I've been fascinated with medieval torture methods for a while, and have watched documentaries and read books on the subject.

All I can say is that humans are incredibly creative beings when it comes to cruelty!

People used to be much smaller, so any of us ripped sherdogger would thrive in an era where leadership was gained through hand combat.

We would crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and hear the lamentation of the women.

For me one of the worst ones is where they stick a wooden stake up your ass and stick it on the ground upright until you slowly get impaled through the gut and out your mouth. Apparently they made sure the stake wasn't too sharp so it wouldn't just go straight through, killing you too quickly. That alone makes me want to never go back to medieval Europe. Well maybe anywhere during that time. The chinese apparently loved flaying people's face off and that pain made you wish you were dead.

That reminds me of the Judas cradle where the victim, often suspended, would have their orifice... typically the anus... slowly impaled and stretched by the pyramidal point of the device's seat.

Lovely!

Let's say you were magically transported to any time period and society with knowledge of the language and culture, but with no other added skills or knowledge other what you already have. You'd also be adapted to their diseases so you don't get sick and die right away. You're also not taking any modern day diseases with you, so you don't wipe out half of the population.
For example, if you get transported to Ancient Rome, you'd speak Latin fluently and have a general understanding of their customs so you don't stick out like an alien, but neither do you gain special skills like fighting with the gladius or something (unless you already know how to fight with a gladius for some how).

Also you'd have to go back at least a 100 years. You can't go back to the 90s so you can win bets on sports events you know the outcome of.

Which time period and culture do you think you would thrive in the most?
Ancient Greece?
Pre-colonial America?
Medieval Europe?
Feudal Japan?
Mongolia during Genghis Kahn?
The Ice Age?

I honestly think I wouldn't do well in any time period but I'd like to see the period humans and giant animals like mammoths and giant sloths roamed the earth together. I'd get to hunt a mammoth with my tribe homies and maybe get to see a saber tooth tiger before it kills me.
Probably Greece. I have no interest being a white guy in Feudal Japan, Mongolia, or hanging with the indians in precolonial america. And fuck that black plague and ice age.

Probably somewhere fairly stable like Rome during the five good emperors era, even relatively layman 21st century scientific knowledge would probably make you very valuable indeed.

I love music and playing music, so probably be born in 1947 and be a teenager by 1960, and then rock out.

Every era on this planet was fucked, either subtly fucked or spectacularly fucked. Choosing an era just means choosing the bullshit you hate the least.

An example of subtly fucked would be the Victorian era where everything you used was poisoned, including the "cures" from the doctor. Not a good era to be an NPC and "follow guidance." The more things change eh?

Spectacularly fucked would be when things were trying to kill you overtly. Mammoth trying to impale you, nomads trying to skewer you, bombs falling from the sky, etc. And if you're really lucky you get an era where people are trying to murder you both covertly and overtly.

I would rather be a fly on the wall or a ghost observer at certain times in history. Observe Dinosaurs, did a T-rex have feathers? What was interaction between Neanderthal and modern human? Jesus' resurrection, the miracles. Muhammed going into a cave and coming out super Muhammed. Islam is almost as bad as Mormonism in terms of it's start. I have a feeling religion in general would be in trouble. Would also love to see Ancient Egypt and the building of the Pyramids. Area 51, JFK shooting, Jon Benet Ramsey murder etc.

I'll go with the ice age, though I'd be located in a nice warm area during that time. I'm allergic to the cold and ice. My diet is more hunter gatherer like, though I did eat some potato chips today with lunch so maybe a Peruvian ice age hunter gatherer would be best.
