Bioshock, but waivered on it vs. Goldeneye.

Both were revolutionary for the time but Bioshock holds up better. I know 007 is a much older game but stuff like OoT or Mario 64 is still fun today and Goldeneye just....isnt.

I spent many childhood memories playing that game with my brother and cousin but I played it at a party a few years ago and nobody could get into it despite everyone wanting to.

Wouldn't have voted for it otherwise, but, went with Bioshock. Haven't played any Half Life, and Goldeneye, while a fantastic game for the time, it has aged like milk imo.

Probably put more time into Goldeneye than any other FPS, but BioShock was the first FPS that hooked me as an adult. The story was crazy and it had enough RPG elements draw me in.

Half Life 2 is about as perfect a video game as you can get. Top tier in every category, the gameplay was incredibly engaging and innovative, engrossing story, great characters, just great from top to bottom.

I played it like 10+ years after release to do another playthrough and I was blown away at how it just pulled me back in right away. The gun play is so damn good in this game and getting headshots feels so satisfying.

Yes you cant really go wrong with any of these games but... in the case of Half Life, Half Life 2 is leaps and bounds better

and Perfect Dark, which isnt even on here, is leaps and bounds better than Goldeneye.

Goldeneye came first, but PD three years later, improved on it in every way and still contains all the multiplayer maps Goldeneye had.

I ultimatley went with Half Life 2 here.

If i had to play any of these games today, thats the one i'd go with more than the others. It stands the test of time.

Half-Life provided the most fun by far. Team fortress, counterstrike and action mods were primo.

Half Life 2

Honorable mentions to Bioshock and Goldeneye.

My favorite FPS remains Perfect Dark 64

HL2, no question.

I really enjoyed Bioshock, the world building is incredible but also silly in a good way. I only played it to completion a couple of years ago. It was the first game I played in Ultrawide, super immersive experience. I had it on 360 when it came out, but I hated the shooting, it's so much better with M&K. It's always the case for an FPS, but Bioshock's gamepad controls were especially clunky for me, especially compared to something like Halo/COD back then.

Half Life 2 bests it in every way, and the physics puts it way over the top. The gravity gun never gets old. I like being able to alter the environment to get to places we normally can't. I hope they nut up and bring us HL3.

The sad fact is Goldeneye has aged very very poorly.

I played in in 2007 on a laptop via emulator, with a PS2-like controller, with a Halo-control layout with two analog sticks rather than one... and on 00 Agent difficulty it was remarkably easy.

Most of the challenge of the game on N64 was dealing with the very odd layout with the controller.

Don't get me wrong, it was a remarkable basepoint for FPS games on consoles, and the multiplayer led to dozens of nights of fun with friends in the late 90s... but comparing it to the overall library of quality FPS games over the last quarter century isn't fair.

Calling it the 'Best FPS Ever' is like saying the original Mario Bros, Tetris, or Pong the greatest game of all time. They're 'legacy picks,' which do have their place on the Top100 games of all time lists.

Kinda like having Ken Shamrock on a 'Greatest MMA fighters of all time' list. He was extremely marketable in the early days of MMA, and his role in expanding the outreach of the sport should be appreciated... but on a Top100 list he shouldn't be anywhere close to the top 50.
