Werdum Maybe? I know Werdum is as about as Good as it gets as far as elite "big man" BJJ goes. But would he be able to get and keep top against Josh? tbh I think Josh in Metamoris would use his weight and smash guard pass world class guards like Werdum or Gonzaga.

I might get flamed for this but whoever beats josh is going to have to have a strong Wrestling and or Judo Game the names that come to mind are

1. Gabriel Gonzaga mundials champ legit threat to josh if he could get top position.

2. Dr Rhadi Ferguson Olympic level Judo and a Black Belt in BJJ. he's a lil long in the tooth but I've seen his videos and he's super aggressive.

3. Daniel Cormier. Daniel showed that he has some submission chops with his rnc over Rumble. add to that Olympic level wrestling, and the fact that he already threw Josh around like he was a bantam weight he might get the win or at least a draw

4. Fabricio Werdum. don't know if he'd get top position on Josh but his level of Jitz for a biggun is un real.

5. Jeff Monson. legit wrestling and has forgotten more about sub grappling then most black belts know.

6.Fedor Emelianko. elite Judo and Sambo. cant see Josh subbing him with scarf hold.

what say you? and who'd I forget?

I still want to see him vs Cyborg

None of those guys listed would be able to submit him.

My pick is Buchecha.

yeah possible but Josh is a Toe hold specialist and Vinny already subbed Buchecha with and inside heel hook relatively easy imho. Buchecha has aggressive takedowns but I just don't see him getting top position on Josh and josh really know how to use his weight to shut down guards.

I mean he basically smothered rorion and lister didn't give em an inch to work really.

Keep in mind that that was Buchecha's first year as a black belt. The same year Rodolfo and Leo Nog beat him at Mundials.

I think it's safe to say he's improved.

Cyborg(Jitz guy, not the chick) is the only one I could see beating him, I would still pick Josh though.

Daniel Cormier.

That match was over four years ago.

Jeff Monson? You're telling me Josh Barnett would have issues with him?

This was from last year.

I feel like a post talking about how werdum is a long shot, not mentioning Buchecha but then saying the extremely past his prime Monson having a shot, has to be borderline troll.

Especially when Rhadi is mentioned but not actual Olympic champs

I'm pretty sure I'd have a good shot against Monson nowadays.

If that guy can even hobble onto the mat, it will be surprising.

Strange list. I'd say Buchecha, Rodolfo, Cyborg.... not a heavy but didn't Romulo beat him? Might have been in the gi though.

As far as fantasy matches, I'd love to seem a grappling match with Fedor. I don't think they ever got a chance to fight in Pride

The man is too incapacitated to spray paint a federal office building much less beat Barnett

Cyborg might be able to but Josh is such an elite grappler

Gonzaga, Furguson, Cormier and Monson wouldn't stand a chance. Gonzaga and furguson haven't competed in years, Monson has competed, but he's been losing, and Cormier has never shown the submission skills to stop Barnett. Fedor might have an outside chance, but I think Barnett beats him. I think Werdum is more likely to submit Barnett the vice versa, but a draw is most likely.

Unfortunately I think a draw is most likely in almost all elite match ups under metamoris rules. But if you want someone who stands a chance look at people who are winning at the elite levels of grappling today rather than big names from teaching, the past or MMA. Xande just won another BJJ world championship, and Faria dominated everyone at worlds this year (although he isn't as good without the Gi). Buchecha and cyborg are also good choices.

Keenan Cornelius beat Lister even more impressively than Barnett did, but that's a big size difference.

I'm sure some of the top Judo heavyweights would have a decent chance if they had some no gi experience.

yeah my man jeff didn't look so good there. either that guy he was grappling is really fast or Jeff's lost a step.

yeah I guess with my "Strange"entrants lol. I was going with guys with enough strength and wrestling or Judo chops to not try and play guard with Barnett essentially smashing them into the mat. no way Barnett holds down any of the guys I mentioned and just grinds them the way he did rorion and Lister.

and with regards to Werdum he has such an elite guard he'd probably invite Barnett into it the way he did Overeem in Strike force, the Thing with Werdum is that he would MAKE his own space. Lister was just kinda laying there not even trying to get to a damn hip.

as a Lister fanboy I was disappointed in his showing against Josh.

You mentioned Monson.
