You have guys like Olivier, Brando, De Niro to name a few. But guys now or around the past 30-40 years are more versatile imo. I think because the influence of DDL and Gary Oldman.

I mean having a wide range of roles. Having a variety of different characters. And usually the characters they play are nothing like the other one. That's how I define it.

He was so brilliant. Broke my heart that he felt he had never got there and considered himself just a "working actor". Big Love doesn't get half the credit it deserves.

4th I was struggling a bit until I remembered Paxton who was suggested above, he was brilliant in Frailty and is one of the few dudes that can make those smaller side roles memorable in other movies he was in.
