Looks like him and Conor were both just talk.... I think what he really meant was "If Khabib was out for some reason" I'd step in to fight TONY and only Tony. They don't seem to want any parts of Khabib.

“I’m probably still going to end up fighting one of those guys. That fight probably is going to get scrapped. They’re 0-for-3 there, so somebody might get scrapped, so I’ll be ready for that.”

“They want to re-sign. We haven’t gotten to that agreement yet, but I’m sure we will. I have a good rapport with everybody there, and we’re definitely going to sit down and come to an agreement, but for me it’s really about what this next fight is, who it’s going to be, whether it’s Tony or Khabib, whether one of those guys drop out and I step right in, or whether Nate wants to do something in the meantime, or whatever, or whether I’m just helping Frankie (Edgar) get ready for Max (Holloway).

Holloway is not a big name at all (all flops), and people are going to undermine Khabib's win of the title fighting a FW in Holloway. At this point, an Alvarez–Khabib bout would have made sense.

Fuck Alvarez. Holloway is the much better fight. I blame Eddie for getting absolutely railroaded by Conor. Couldn't handle that skinny Irish fucker, looked incompetent.

Eddie isnt a draw. And the memory of him getting absolutely humiliated against Conor still has not gone away. Max is a much hotter commodity right now and has champ status. Just destroyed Aldo twice and before that Anthony Pettis. Plus hes only 26 and has practically no damage. Eddie is war torn. And Max is a gigantic FW and should actually be fighting at LW. I bet hes bigger than Alvarez. Max is game as fuck right now and am much more excited to see him fight Khabib than I would be Eddie.

Lmao.

I bet the ufc called a bunch of people before Holloway stepped up.

No one wants a piece of khabib and if they do, they regret it within 3 minutes

“Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor are just talk” - random sherdogger

Still a larger draw than Holloway, unfortunately. And while I never wanted Khabib to give Alvarez that title shot, seeing what he did to Khabib. He refuses to go away and its obvious he'll get a TS sooner or later, so why not get it over with now? Make the fight that should have happened back in 205. Khabib vs Alvarez.

Has Dana come out and said if he offered the fight to anyone before Holloway?

might have something to do with the UFC.

Eddie matches up well against Khabib stylistically. Better than people acknowledge. What if he wins?

Then we have an Eddie Conor rematch?

I don't think the UFC even wants to take a chance of that. At least in the small chance that Holloway wins, they can have a rematch between them In a champ vs champ fight.

Alvarez / khabib would be a nice fight for the fans but business wise It's terrible from every conceivable angle.

Honestly, as much as I'd like to have seen Conor step In and fight Khabib.

Would the UFC even have allowed him to do that on short notice either?

Genuine question, as that seemed to be the issue for the Frankie edgar fight too.

Again, problem might be that they want to milk every last drop out of every Mcgregor fight.

It sucks but this might be how It went down.

Eddie's prob one of Khabib's toughest matchups In the division. His defensive wrestling, scrambling ability and ability to get back to his feet Is excellent. Michael Chandler is a better wrestler than Khabib imo. Guy also has Cardio and heart for days, he doesn't quit like Barboza would.

Obviously he's a far superior striker to Khabib as well.

It's a very winnable fight for him stylistically.

but what would the UFC do if he won? Then they'd have Eddie Conor 2?

That would've been terrible In so many ways.

I feel like the UFC would do everything In their power to prevent Eddie from getting that fight against Khabib or Tony, especially when so much Is at stake. They'd never risk him winning.

No, they'd have done Eddie-Tony.

And then if Conman wanted back in, they would have ended up doing Eddie-Conor 2, in case Nate-Conor 3 doesn't happen. That's assuming Tony lost against Eddie, otherwise its back to Tony-Khabib. It all works out if they want it to work out. Nothing is forcing Conor-Eddie 2 unless that's what they want, in which case you're probably going to see Conor-Holloway 2 anyways.

I mean, did Eddie get offered the fight or even know?

nah, I don't think they'd even take the risk of him winning honestly.

Nobody wants to see Eddie Conor 2. Literally nobody. It makes no sense for the fans, makes no sense money and business wise. There's just no upside to It whatsoever.

I don't think they'd even take the risk.

Much hate as the UFC and Conor get, they are Interested In making fights the fans want to see. When he's fighting of course.

Holloway / Conor is different. That's a sell. Champ vs champ fight, there's a story behind It. In the small chance Holloway beats Khabib, they wont at all be unhappy about that rematch. It would've happened eventually anyways.

If it makes no sense then why are you even ASSUMING that's what'll happen? It obviously wont, by your logic. It'll go to Eddie-Tony. Then Tony-Khabib, or Tony vs someone else.

What a stupid thread. It’s almost as if Eddie isn’t a matchmaker for the ufc. Who knew? <Lmaoo>

It doesn't necessarily have to happen but It would eliminate a perfectly good contender, at least for a bit. Then all of a sudden Eddie would have case for a title shot that nobody wants to see.

I dunno. Maybe if he did win they could figure something different out, but It feels like It'd unnecessarily throw a wrench in things. imo

but who knows

Max makes far more sense from all angles.

edit - Since Conor will be at the fight on Saturday, I am expecting him to fight the winner of this. Which Is influencing my opinions here.

Also.. I forgot the real title is on the line against Khabib.. Lol

Yeah, they def wouldn't give him the opportunity to become champ again. Which would mean they'd be forced to make an Eddie Conor rematch.
