Where is Max and why is he not fighting for the interim belt?

- Max is still recovering from an injury.

- It's too soon to put Max in a fight where he would be rematching Iliia with a win. He should win at least 2 more fights imo before there's real fan demand for a rematch, if Ilia is still the champion by then.

I know the UFC seem to still hate Arman because he blew his back out trying to impress Nina and couldn't fight, but how is not Max vs Charles for this interim belt at least? Unless it's just bullshit business and they really want Paddy to have a belt, and just want one more payday out of Justin, then why the fuck are they skipping the top 3 here?

Max has 3 LW fights in his career. I love Max but being ranked #3 as you say is a stretch. 1-1 with Dustin and a very decisive win over Justin. Better than Paddy for certain but still pretty thin resume in the division. Of course the current champion has 2 LW fights total so Merit is not part of the formula.

Max's first fight against Dustin was 11 fights and 6 years ago. It's sorta not relevant now. Beating both Dustin and Justin in his last two LW fights since April last year should count for a lot. At the very least it has to put him above both of those guys, and those guys were both top 5. I feel it'd be a stretch to put him below them to be honest.

Max might have only 2 wins at LW, but those 2 wins are still way better than anything Paddy has done yet.

100% agree. But he did lose to Ilia and has 1 win since. My point isn't that Max shouldn't be ranked above those guys it that the rankings are completely pulled out of a hat. 1 loss justifies complete removal from the title picture in some cases and numerous losses don't justify removing someone from the rankings if the UFC doesn't want them to be. Look at Stipe being ranked despite 3 years out of the cage vs Jones. Not only ranked but #3 iirc???

Ilia is considered the best LW despite never beating a LW champion and having 1 single ranked win at LW which was his Vacant title fight. UFC rankings are meaningless at this point.

Max broke his hand homie in his last fight. He has Ben recovering from that. He’ll be back soon. No doubt about it.

I'm telling you facts, he won against aging fighters on a long losing streak, while he got bailed out by the judges, against a low level fighter, in Gordon. Now spin that like you want, but you will have to deal with the reality.

I agree. He's fighting another aging fighter as well. Guess that doesn't count because Gaethje is retired soon as he loses.

LW is a fucked up division, and we've had a bubble of guys not have a rank. What makes Gordon low level? He's a 50/50 fighter, only lost to decent guys. Doesn't make him a can. There is a spin no matter what approach you take.

Fact is the last person to beat Chandler which was a decision got a title shot on a 1 fight win streak, while Paddy finished him before the 3rd.
Fact is Paddy is on a 7 fight win streak in the LW division which is considered one of the deepest usually
Fact is Paddy has more finishes than Arman's entire UFC career, same amount as Gaethje since 2017, but Paddy started in 2021
Fact is Gaethje is on a 1 fight win streak of 10 days notice opponent

I think Arman deserves it and Gaethje/Paddy should've been runner up after that fight. But it is what it is. We could've had Arman/Islam in January if Arman was in an isolation chamber, not be in this mess. If Paddy is horrible, the whole division sucks, because he's clearly winning lots of fights.

I don't think Max's run at a LW belt should be hindered just because illia decided to move up a weight class too, but I can see why it does affect his path to a lw title shot for many fans.
 
Word on the street is they're setting up him vs Charlie Olives for the BMF strap.

This all accurate. Also I have a feeling ilia won’t be the champion in a year and half. I just got this feeling he will defend the belt in next fight win and then either retire or take an extended time off. Or just chase fun/money fights. I don’t think he wants to be a long reigning champ at any weight class. I don’t think that means too much to him. He is a prize fighter.
