He just lacks snap on his punches. Yeah, he throws his punches with a little bit of a pop, but he just doesn't have that extra snap to them that most normal boxers, or even guys that just know how to throw a proper power punch do.

He actually pushes a lot of his punches, and I think its due to him having extremely long arms. Its like he physically can't really snap and put that torque on them for that extra KO power delivery. I think it's something he's inherently limited in. Like he was born to punch that way, and because of the way his bodies constructed, he just cant properly punch with piston like delivery.

Just a random observation.

He probably rushes his strikes, but I don't think he really cares if he's hurting you. He's still winning by being out of your range

why throw punches when you can throw open finger jabs and get away with it?

why punch when you can walk forward with fingers extended and place them into the eye socket.

Why throw punches when you can gouge eye balls for a living.

Yup. Jones with 5 inches shorter reach would be a wrecking machine. Great to see, though, that he's overcome the reach disadvantage.

Nope. No power at all behind those punches. Shoguns liver was all like 'pffffft please'

He wouldn't be but every great athlete has some physical advantage. Michael Phelps is built like an experiment gone wrong. LBJ shouldn't be able to be that big and fast. Wilt chamberlain was a giant in his day. Jordan was playing again half a league of unathletic white dudes.

Get over it.

The eye gouging though I'm not a fan of.

You said it yourself. Liver shot. Doesn't take the hardest punch. Besides, even your mother could've punched Shogun in the ribs at that point, and he was still going down. He was beaten half to death by that point.

Long arms is why guys like hearns and Liston had no power.

I think he made improvements with the long right cross vs Machida, and it hurt Lyoto, but generally yeah, he mostly arm punches. Or when he leaned in with rights against DC he pushed those punches. The uppercuts against Glover were much of the same. Doesn't turn with them and doesn't bend his knees, but him being able to land those shots is impressive.

Everything looks to be designed for speed to stay out of close range, but I don't think that's an excuse. Plenty of tall, lanky boxers with his body type throw hard. Maybe boxing is just the one area where he isn't super talented. Jones comes from a wrestling background and many wrestlers just have trouble losing shoulder stiffness when transitioning to punching.

He doesn't set down on, or turn over his shots.

He is a volume striker. Does damage thru accumulation.

Fuck eye gouging.

When you "accidentally" hurt people in other sports the refs don't just give you a pass.

Anyway, in regards to your contention that every great athlete has some physical advantage...that's simply not true.

...it's true in most cases, but it doesn't always apply.

The mental aspect is generally THE most important thing...as there are any number of people who had the physical tools....yet never panned out.

TS you got the answer you expected pussy?

TS you should try brushing your teeth some time with Jones' punches...

It also works the other way around. Its a give and take with Jones' crazy physique and explosiveness. For his body build, his wrestling coordiantion, agility, kicks, and unorthodox spinning attacks are amazing, but he just lacks that 1 essential element to be legitamitely unstoppable as long as he's on his A game, and not injured, and that's legit KO power with his hands.

Its a nature thing. No one can have everything. If he had KO power in his hands to go along with every other strength of his, why even fight him?
