When you get sleepy while driving do you pull over and take a nap or try to force yourself awake

I used to get really sleepy if it is the same route I drive all the time. Eating right before exasperates the situation. Unfortunately the routes I take all the time dont have anywhere to pull over.

Now if I go somewhere new, and scenic I can drive for hours with no problem.
I started getting sleepy after I ate 3 donuts and drank a small carton of Chocolate milk , I figured I was already on my way home after this last package and by the time I get home the donuts will make me wan to take a dump, I usually take a dump right when I get home or around 8 or 9 am after eating a breakfast ill shower and then go to sleep

But instead I started feeling sleepy, I think it was a sugar crash, man it was scary my eyelids got so heavy I could barely keep them open, I was just waiting on that long ass turn signal the entire street was empty it was dark and I just dozed off.

Night shift LEO for 9 years now.

Sunflower seeds>
Ill usually just chew some cinnamon gum and it keeps me awake but had none I was out.

my go to is salt-less pretzel sticks and Cornuts, I wasn't able to pack them with me, because I took someones shift last minute I had to rush out there they were paying me double so I couldn't pass it up and it was local just around the LA area.

I opted to buy some donuts and Chocolate milk on the way to work and it was a horrible idea, I right after I ate them I started feeling tired as hell and sleepy.

yes food coma. It even happens to me if I sit on a subway train. All you can do is stair at the interior of the train. It hypnotizes you, plus the food coma. I have fallen asleep and fell on other people.

I just drink a Red Bull but I never drive more than 7 hours straight . Knew an old truck driver who told me before the days of energy drinks , he’d drink warm Mountain Dew and red hots( those cinnamon candies ) . He’d keep the Mountain Dew down by the floorboard near engine so it’d be super warm . He’d put a shitload of red hots in his mouth , then take a giant swing of MD. He said you’d get a super RUSH! Feel like your head was exploding he said from all that sugar . Said it was like legal meth . Said if u kept doing that you could drive fir days ( not legally ). Not the healthiest for sure lol .

Cinnamon chewing gum usually does the trick for me but I was all out of big reds.

I cant do the caffeine it makes me piss all the water out of my body and dehydrates me.

Right now most of the Truckers just pull over on the side of the freeway and take a nap, Ill see see a grip of them at 2 am or 3 am sleeping in their truck but you can see they are watching movies or the news on their dash they have those cabins so they can ge ta nice sleep.

At Spotlight 29 casino they have like 100 trucks parked in the empty parking lot they let the truckers park there and and rest up, but the downside is the restrooms have truckers all taking dumps and you can never find a stall it stinks so bad lol

I used to stop there with my coworker, but we just opt to Fantasy springs since its empty and you can find empty stalls.

Please don't do that, it's so dangerous! Take better care of yourself and everyone else sharing the road with you. Shit happens so quick, you don't even realise you're falling asleep. My uncle died thanks to a truck driver that fell asleep and destroyed my uncle's car killing him instantly. My other uncle survived the crash but was never the same. It ruined my grandmother's life too. You don't want to be responsible for something like that. Or dying yourself.

I agree, One morninf while driving to work I thought thats strange theres a giant eagle walking in front of of me, then I realised Id fallen asleep and pushed the car next to me over 3 lanes and off the road, truly scary shit and it happen in an instance
ill be honest with you it traumatized me for a bit, I couldn't believe how quickly I fell asleep I was waiting for the light to turn green and my heavy eyelids went over my eyes and next thing you know some guy was banging on my window. I was just lucky I wasn't in motion or on the freeway,

I fell asleep at the stop like this guy but my head was resting on my steering wheel and I was drooling, I could have been sleeping for 5 minutes

A monster and bag of skittles keep me awake. I recently drove from indiana to Arizona and managed 17 hours before finding a hotel.

Eating something does the trick. Almonds or popcorn. Something you can keep munching on.

It has to do with sugar right? or feeling full.
I started feeling so tired and sleepy 40 minutes or so after eating those donuts. and drinking chocolate milk.

I was just waiting at the light it wasn't changing, I think I was there for like two minutes and it didn't change and I just fell asleep.

Man I was lucky it wasn't some car jacker or a cop who knocked on my window, I was so groggy I sounded like I was on drugs, I could have been shot up by the police or they could have arrested me for intoxication or something or DUI, can you get in trouble for Driving while sleepy?

Man that is terrible, and tragic.

Thats part of the reasons I also get scared driving late night, you never know if those truckers are sleepy, they can crush you

This guy fell asleep as well but he was driving and he drove off he was lucky to survive but he wasnt wearing a seat belt

Just had a coworker fall asleep and roll his truck coming into shift. Luckily he walked away with just some minor injuries and didn't get dead.

If your tired pull over and catch a quick nap.

It depends how far I have to go. I usually plan my trips so I don't run into that issue.

There was a night though driving back from visiting a college girlfriend over the summer, when I had car trouble. Between walking to a Wal-Mart, to try and fix it myself, and then waiting for a tow truck when I couldn't, I was up most of the night.

By the time I was back on the road it was just after noon, and I still had 4 hrs to go. I ended up pulling over on a rest stop and taking a couple hour nap. It felt weird doing that, but I knew I probably wouldn't have been safe not taking a rest.

I've never pulled over for a nap but there are times when I should have.

When I first started driving I thought the idea of falling asleep while driving was absurd. Then when I was 19 I took a very long blink on a country road and found myself in the oncoming traffic lane. Lesson learned.

Sounds dumb but if I'm really tired I'll yell a couple times. Works for me.

Scary shit man. Once I was on a parkway and I had a good distance- maybe six car lengths on a car in front of me that was the last in several lined up a red light. I was inching up toward it- still about five car lengths and then I blinked and when I was cognizant again I was inches away from the bumper of the car and jammed the brake.

I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten into my 30s I’m less likely to start feeling drowsy before falling asleep. Sometimes it will just be like watching a show at home on the couch thinking I’m fully attentive and then I’m fast asleep. That shit worries me cause when you’re on the road at least if you’re feeling tired you have some kind of a warning system.

As for ts’ question, I’ve never pulled over to rest but a couple of times when I was drowsy, I did some things that were effective for me- typically blasting the radio and absolutely blasting the AC regardless of the temp outside. I find the loud music and uncomfortably cold temp to be good at keeping me awake.

I can't sleep sitting upright and I don't get tired while driving. I know a guy who does tend to nod off and he has some device he wears on his ear that senses when he tilts his head. I'll drive on long trips but there are people that don't like to ride with me because I only stop for gas. They have to stop for bathroom breaks or to get coffee.

Same here im in my 30s and thats how you know you are getting old when you fall fast asleep abruptly this never happened to me before I just closed my eyes and then woke up with a guy banging my window telling me to wake up.

Look at this guy he didn't even have his seat belt on but he fell asleep abruptly and than he crashes he lived and was lucky but man next time just pull over its not worth it to try to use your ego thinking you can man through it you can hurt someone and yourself.

It was scary.

The windows open helps on the freeway because of the loud noise.

And holy crap that video, that guy is so fucking lucky!

You are like my brother, he RARELY stops to use the restroom, he could drink a big gulp and not stop during an two hour and half drive, while my folks, my self and my relatives on long road trips will want to stop at least twice.

They need to come out with some devices that you can wear on your wist linked to the car computer and it knows if you are falling asleep and that will wake you up and tell you if you are tired please pull over and take a nap

I bet that would save a lot of lives and crashes from happening.

Also I cant drive on the freeway in the daytime lol, I been so used to empty freeway at night that I have difficulty when there is lots of traffic I can't gauge the distance it sucks. It messed me up the timing is off for me now entering and changing lanes with fast cars in traffic.

Pull over

drowsy driving is impaired driving

Amphetamines. the answer is amphetamines.

sure for 24 hours or maybe little over. But not something for 2 days or more you will lose your mind. Sleep is needed.
