When was the last time a wrestling VS BJJ grappling war was as good as Gillespie Ferreira?

Prolly the best grappling bout of the year and one of the best wrestling VS BJJ fights ever. Folkstyle wrestling against the slick scrambling and transitions of BJJ. Bunch of momentum shifts and a wild ride throughout

Yeah, most grappler vs grappler matches seem to turn into low-level kickboxing, especially wrestler vs bjj. It was rad as hell to see two grapplers go at it.

Maia Askren was prolly the last one I can remember but it wasnt as good as this and there was some bad standup in that one.

That's what happens when good wrestlers try to fight instead of scoring!

I was super impressed by Gregor’s bjj defense on top of his insane pressure. I thought a few times oh he’s fucked now and he got out of it all. Dude has tons of potential.

Gillespie won big last night. Lots of visibility, took the fight against a guy with a 17-3 record that came in waaaaay over weight. Faced adversity and finished him

That's the way to come back and erase a loss.

Against a guy that gave Dariush everything he could handle, finished Pettis and out hustled Kabilov.

Not UFC, but Ruth vs Gracie in Bellator was amazing. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t seen it.

Prolly not FOTY level but on the level below FOTY candidates IMO. Its def the best grappling war of the year.

Fun, but nothing like FOTY level. Gillespie looked to be gassing hard and he turned the momentum around and Ferreria eventually just quit due to the pressure.

Maia vs Askren? Wasn't that long ago. Not quite as good but the last really good one I can think of.

    Came in to say this.

Seven years late, but still awesome.

More recent fights are harder for me to remember than the older fights Diego vs Nick. Or either guy vs Parisyian. All really fun fights.

No way. It was nothing compared to Watterson vs. Rodriguez. Hopefully you didn't miss that barnburner.
