When was it good to be old?

Thinking about it, I worked on my family tree. In the past most of my ancestors were in decent shape up to the end of their life. There are a few exceptions to that, but overall I don't recall finding out many older ancestors being crippled in their older age and reliant upon others for help. That's the way to be in older age I believe. Having your freedom.

These days things have changed. A number of current older relatives are in bad shape, in pain, needing lots of help from others, constantly going to the doctors.

I don't know why that is but a few ideas that come to mind - our diets have changed greatly due to grocery stores and having freezers at home, we exercise less, get outside infrequently. stare at computers all day, etc.

People talk about what era it was good to have a childhood, like the 80s and 90s. Ninja Turtles and shit.

In the 1940s it would suck to be young cause if you’re 18 you’re either running up a beech at Nazi bullets or someone in your family is fighting in a war. Might have been better to be a senior then.

People talk about when it was fun to be in your prime which I think for a lot of men might have been in the 1960s when 1 dude could feed a family of 5 on one job with no degree, drink all day at work, pinch every ass in the neighbourhood… basically do whatever you want.

It would suck to be a senior today because you are so easy to get scammed with AI, seniors care is super expensive and people do granny dumping (leaving your elderly parent on a street corner and never coming back)

What times in history do you think it was best to be a senior citizen?
Granny dumping wtf lol

I think generally healthcare and medicine is much better now than 50 years ago. This is very relevant for people with serious health issues like diabetes/kidney problems/cancer/heart problems/etc.

For those of us that are healthy and live in a western democracy, I can‘t imagine anyone prentending that it‘s better to be any age in 2020 than in 1990.

Seriously the world was a much better place for healthy westerners from the 1960s until 2010s than now.

Back when people used to die in their 30's, go straight from partying and being in your prime to dead, no time to get pathetic and decrepit

Win win
I don't believe that every really happened.

There were times when the average age of death was somewhere around 30, but the average wasn't representative of individual life spans.

There were high infant mortality rates due to disease, and maybe some wars also with a lot of younger people being killed, but generally if you made it to 30 you were good to 60+.

I think it's quite similar now too. If you make it to 60 then there's a very high likelihood you make it to 80+, even though the average life expectancy is in the 70s.

I feel like we have living on the brink of near disaster for at least the last 10 years.

Stress is a motherfucker lol

Personally I don t see disasters happening, but rather slow decay of post industrial societies. People need structure, a clan, a community, something to believe in, a project, a challenge, etc. When they don‘t have that they turn on themselves. It doesn‘t take long to realise that institutions have worked very hard to eliminate all that from society over the last few decades. People are empty, and this is now exacerbated by the fact that smartphones have turned people into zombies.

BTW this is the reason why the far right is rising. Because it offers something that mainstream parties have destroyed.

It's probably never been better to be old than right now. And it still sucks tremendously, horrible if we are talking old, old.

All my dreams get crushed

I thought Robert Kennedy's FDA's mention yesterday of removing warnings from hormone treatment a positive. Apparently the study(s) used for the warning were of poor quality.

In Germany I've read of doctors there saying that in the past, that hormone treatments were safe and helpful. The studies that said otherwise were poor quality.

As one ages their hormone levels go into decline resulting in various health problems. One of the bigger supporters of hormone treatments for older people was the late actress Suzanne Somers. She preferred natural hormones over the synthetic ones most hospitals prescribe, believing they worked better.

Ageless: The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones

In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Suzanne Somers reveals the secrets to a younger, healthier, and sexier you.

What if you could really feel better as you get older, or age without illness? What could be better than having your doctor tell you that you have the bones of a twenty-year-old, or the heart of a thirty-year-old? Follow the advice in Ageless, and you’ll discover your own internal fountain of youth!

Jam-packed with updated information on bioidentical hormone replacement and antiaging, Ageless will change your life forever. Suzanne talks about:

• Antiaging medicine and how it can help work against the environmental assault that is making us sick

• Menopause, which can become an enjoyable passage once the body is in perfect hormonal sync with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy

• Why so many hysterectomies are unnecessary, how birth control pills may have contributed to the rise of them, and how to restore your body to perfect hormonal balance after having one

• The importance of sleep and the healing work that nature does during this time

Right now atleast here. Old people hold all the assets while youngsters are fighting for any job with 10 percent unemployment rate
That's deep.

I've complained here how no family can afford to live in my town. A big reason is the older generation protesting any new house construction due to "environmental concerns"

I am sure it has nothing to do with creating an artificial housing deficiency in the hopes of your own home value increasing

what is some good modern entertainment?
Rebel Ridge on Netflix

Loved the Bookie on HBO, actually has a competent protagonist who dropped out of high school

First season of Sacred Games on Netflix.

The 2012 Chinese movie The Last Supper.

Northman. One of the best takes of an actual historical period movie.

Ciara 2017 Slovakian movie.

The Night Comes for Us Indonesian movie.

Brawl in Cell Block 99

The Bahubali duology from South india

The Rurouni Kenshin movies.

I guess the thing I am looking forward the most is when all the kids move out. We have 4 so God knows when that will be
