When was Eddie Alvarez peak?

Around 27- 28ish.....well before his UFC tenure. His run in UFC is the epitome of the unpredictable nature of sport. His preceding fights before title shot were less than impressive but got shot and had the round of his life against a scorching RDA and then we saw what happened after that.

When he beat Gaethje.
That was a wreckless no cardio gaejthe who was at the start of his UFC tenure ( this happens alot ). Eddie, a legend, had one of the more luckier / fortunate starts( unimpressive)when he came to UFC. He was gifted a t.s and made the most of it.

This should be a good topic but itll end in disaster cause all the sheep will come on and say " when he won the UFC title" .
No.
I've only read the first 2-3 posts and I dont even have to go further.

Eddie never really had a peak when you could say he was a dominant force, I would say his peak was from around 2008 until just around signing for the UFC when he was showing signs of dropping off.

I actually think Melendez had a better peak during his SF run were he did really look dominant agenst everyone between the 1st and 3rd Josh Thomson fights.

Eddie got many lucky decisions: Chandler, Melendez, Pettis.

Also got extremely lucky vs RDA, I'm still mad he leapfrogged Tony for a TS vs RDA

When he won the UFC lightweight title, and on the road to the title probably.
He won some other big fights after losing the title too.

I thought he clearly beat Melendez and Pettis, I had Chandler winning the second fight. He didn't get lucky at all against RDA, he's a bad match up for RDA due to his better wrestling, striking and punching power. I picked Eddie to beat RDA by TKO due to the style match up and that's exactly what happened. A lot of people weren't and aren't very familiar with how good Eddie is cause most of his career isn't in the UFC.

Both were "who landed first" fights, while the others were drawn out scraps to show full range of skills.

The Gaethje fight wasn't a who landed first fight. Other than swelling in Eddie's jaw and the low kicks he was picking Gaethje apart.

Why do i have feeling Eddi is hated because Conor owned him in their fight.<Neil01>

Its become the narrative now that he was washed up when he fought Conor but thats ridiculous since he beat RDA in the prior match and went on to beat Justin after. He also was getting the better of Poirer in both fights until he made some daft decisions, iirc he was beating Dustin the 1st fight before it been declared a no contest due some illegal elbows? Something similar happen in the 2nd fight, again he was winning and had Dustin in a bad spot they they had to reset their position due to something illegal Eddie did and he lost the initiative. Either way he gave Poirer very close fights and was still a top fighter.

I was never a fan of Eddie until e the Justin fight, his body work that fight was a treat to watch. I'd argue he was still at his peak for the entirety of his UFC stint. With that being said though, he never really looked impressive until the RDA fight, and he looked dare I say, mediocre even in his wins.

The Aoki rematch. He KO'd Patricky and beat Chandler in the next 2. That 3-fight run. Didn't have a good performance against Cowboy the fight after or against Melendez or Pettis in the next 2. So in the 5 fights after Aoki/Freire/Chandler he had just 1 good showing and that was getting RDA out of there early.

Think the Conor defeat really hurt his confidence, it's gotta be hard as an elite fighter take that kind of beating and fight with the same belief going forward.

Even in his prime, while good, he had questionable decision wins in the UFC and lost to Cowboy (who pretty much loses to all the top caliber fighters) He beat an RDA who had passed out moments before the fight, RDA should not have been medically cleared to fight that night imo.
You are clueless

Chandler win, he was awful in the UFC. Very very fortunate to a) get the title shot and b) win it.
