When Rogan asked Francis about him going to boxing

We live in a crazy, collapsing society. Youtube stars are making millions on silly boxing matches, a straight up fucking fraud is robbing investors, stealing from government agencies, and abusing workers into making mediocre versions of products that have long existed is the richest man on the planet, a cadaver replaced a reality tv star as president. Not surprising the UFC champ wants to jump in a boxing ring to make 10x the money he makes fighting in the octagon.
It's snowing flakes

He's done this before with the classic example being letting Schuab shit on Dana over the Reebok thing and not really pushing back in Dana's defense. There is or least was some sort of unspken agreement to let Rogan give anti UFC narratives a platform. Then again that's on the JRE not using a mic that Dana provided.

Also Rogan's importance to society likely transcends the whole sport at this point he's really too big for Dana to cancel without looking like he wants state MMA tv with only shills. He already looked like that with the whole Ariel thing(not because of the Lesnar issue but because of how far he went out of his way to get him cancelled at ESPN).

Another way to look at it is Dana's a loyal person to a fault(classic examples being Trump, railroading Daley for hitting a TUF 1 guy after the bell etc) and Rogan was there from the beginning and they are friends. He might just be willing to tolerate things from Rogan he's not willing to tolerate from other people because of the history.

Does he though? Why? He has headlined 3 PPV with a 2-1 record in those fights and the only buy rate yet shown is 350,000 which is pretty weak. On a personal level I hope these guys make as much as they can but he has a low number of defences and minima evidence of selling big fights, how does that translate into big pay days
To be fair, every fighter should have a big pay day.

Mcgregor boxing mayweather was huge publicity for Dana and the UFC, im sure they could work something out with ESPN and Fury

McG was never the same after that fight. Francis could legit suffer permanent brain damage trying to hang with Fury. No one should sanction it, but probably will anyways. I doubt an exhibition would sell well so is it worth 10 mil to get your brains bashed in?

The problem with this is that you have complained that a fighter should have to promote his own fight and used the biggest personality and biggest self promoter in the game as a comparison. If you generate more income for the company without them having yo spend more money, you get paid more. If you disappear into the ether between a few 60 second fights a year then you don't. Agree with it, disagree with it, everyone knows that is how it works, that's why Jake Paul earns more than Derrick Chisora. Ngannou is already earning more than Cormier did (outside of the Jones fights) by a large amount, but his fights aren't pulling the same numbers

I did not say that a fighter "should" have to promote their own fights.
I said that the UFC doesnt do THEIR job of promoting their fighters. There isn't another outside promotion that is allowed to promote fighters. And fighters are hampered by how they're able to promote themselves and sponsorship during events.

My point in bringing up Mayweather was intentional. Mayweather is like 5'7, he isn't particularly good looking, he isn't remotely articulate, he isn't an exciting fighter, he isn't young, and he isn't even part of current meme or social media culture to any large degree....and YET, he is able to draw millions of dollars.
Considering that, are we saying that Francis Ngannou has reached his peak, in terms of how popular he could be?
He's a huge man that has finished most of his fights, he is a compelling story, he does the Wakanda forever pose and he's actually African....and you're trying to tell me that he would be LESS appealing than Floyd?
A competent promoter could make him a star--but the UFC isn't interested in promoting individual fighters in that way.
Because they like to maintain control over the fighters.
Why is the onus of promotion solely on the fighter when the UFC is the promoter ?
The numbers argument needs to start from the actual starting line, not the bullshit line that the UFC makes up about a fighter's worth.

Ngannou is a great MMA fighter but he does not have the technical skills to challenge Fury in a boxing match.

This was painfully obvious against Gane. He had to adjust his fight style a broad range of MMA techniques (wrestling) to win this fight. That's not a dig at him...he is an MMA fighter and that is what he is supposed to do....but without a broad range of techniques Fury kills him.
His power is great, nothing else is though.

It was painfully obvious against Gane as the guy has significant knee injuries, it was pretty clear Ngannou has significantly issues with mobility. That said, the rest I largely agree with, he is delusional if he thinks he can beat Fury or any top 15 HW boxer for that matter.

I don't see how Wilder/Ngannou is any less one-sided than Fury/Ngannou. Ngannou should try to get the Jake Paul fight
This is just ridiculous. Paul fights WW that aren’t cutting weight. And you honestly expect him to fight somebody that weighs in at around 260lbs?? The guy only weighs about 200 lbs himself. I’ve seen a few people say this and it gets more ridiculous each time I see it.

Rogan is at a place where he can do what he want. Doesn't have to be a UFC ass kisser.
Love him or hate him this is true.

Rogan gives zero fucks and if anything he helped Ngannou and fighters in general pulling that in the post fight interview.
