While shopping, I've encountered several items where buying more is much cheaper than buying one. I often use two laptops at once very close together and I get messages that I've lost WiFi connection so I decided to go to a wired connection. I needed an ethernet switch to use as a splitter. I like Netgear equipment so I found a switch that offered 5, 8, 16 and 24 port versions. I only needed 3 ports so I was going to order the 5 port but I checked the price on an 8 port in case I would want to expand in the future and the 8 port was $1 cheaper than the 5 port so I bought the 8 port.
I needed some 6 foot ethernet cords to go with the switch. I found a package of 6 cheaper than the price of 1.
Whenever I need a pair of scissors they seem to be in another room so I looked for scissors and found I could buy 6 cheaper than one.
I needed some button cell batteries and found I could buy a pack of 20 for slightly more than a pack of 2.
I broke a plastic letter opener so I looked for some replacements. I found the style I like sold by two different sellers. One was selling 3 for $5.99 and the other was selling them 12 for $5.99.
I had to print some wiring diagrams and tape them together so I wanted some Scotch magic tape. I could get a single roll of 1/2 inch wide in the plastic dispenser for $7 or 6 of 3/4 inch wide rolls for $13.99. A little more searching turned up the same 6 for $13.99 with a free metal dispenser.
I wanted some push pins to hold the papers in place while I taped them together. I found a pack of 20 for $5 or a pack of 100 for $3.06.
Today I couldn't find the stylus that I use on my tablet so I figured I would get some so I have extras. I could buy 4 for $12 or 120 for $21.
All of these are with free shipping. I don't know how they can afford to ship them to me at those prices.
Have you encountered items where it seems better to buy more?
