Been at my current school for a little over 2 years now. Instruction in both bjj and kickboxing have significantly gone downhill since then. The end goal is mma but the mma class is 10 o'clock in the morning. I've tried but I seriously hate training that early. Only have like 3-4 training partners for both bjj and kickboxing that are actually competitive with me. School only has like 3 active fighters that do kickboxing.

The other school I'm looking at would be superior to my current school in almost every single way.
Although our schools compete against each other. I live in a very small place so we only have about 5 good schools in the area.

I feel my current school has a lot to offer but some days I'm learning absolutely nothing. We rarely even do Thai pads anymore. If I'm lucky maybe once a week, but it's pretty rare.

I've grown very attached to the people at my gym. Anyone make a hard decision like this?

First of all, if you don't train the mma class cause it's "too early", fighting is not for you.

Second, what DOES your gym do? Are you able to stay after class with a friend and hit pads? Is your trainer a douche bag? Cause it's usually considered pretty taboo to fight for a rival gym. But if your trainer is a schlub, then... ya know. You gotta do what you gotta do.

It's hard to learn and perform when you just wake up. We have warm ups though. The morning class starts at 10 and ends at 1. Not to mention the night class starts 4:30 and ends 7:30.

Btw I'm going to have to leave this gym eventually. Just knowing if doing it now at 2 and a half years in might be easier than later

You should only be training with other fighters if you are fight training IMO. Unless you're helping out with the classes as well.

That's how all the fighters feel. Coach doesn't seem to care though. I do have a fight coming up soon too

Maybe just as the coach if you can split away with the some/all/one of the fighters and train by yourselves. Partner up, do your pad rounds, clinching, sparing etc. No point training in a structured class with all the beginners if you have a fight coming up. You need to do fight training not learning 'new' techniques.

Yea, I don't see a problem with this. I train in the morning and at night.

No. We train with the cardio kick boxers as well. I just always partner up with the fighters though

You have cardio kickboxers in your class? Yes. Leave gyms. Go to a gym with a reputable trainer, someone who has competed at a high level. YOu need someone who has knowledge that is battle tested.

Go try other places and see if you like those people. Ive joined gyms because of certain trainers and people i know who train there. Then found a new spot and brought my friends and even a trainer from a previous gym. Its good to change environment every once in a while, especially if you live in a place that has more than one good gym.

If you work during this time then its completely understandable. If not, you can wake up earlier and sleep earlier as well. At the end of the day, its where your priorities lie; If you place competing at the top of your list, you'd make time for it.

Other than that, could you message some main training partners of yours to drill what you want after class or whenever? Basically an open session.
