When I was a kid there was a guy named Scott smith

Back when fighters were fighters, not wannabe influencers

All the way back in 2016 when Smith retired was "when fighters were fighters" huh? Wow, can't beat the good old days.

And TS, if Scott Smith was banging when you were a "kid" you are still a f***ing kid cause that was just a few years ago...

Scott Smith had bricks for hands, he doesn't get enough credit for his ko power. One of the hardest hitting fighters out there, especially in those days.

The best was during Smith's tenure in strikeforce, when they ran those little fighter intros. His always included all of these idiotic clips of him pulling chains and gripping metal rods like he worked in some steel mill. Classic.
maybe its just nostalgia speaking but I miss that kind of cheesiness in MMA

That fight was insane. Should be a top 5 all time excitement factor.
Yeah I agree, one of the greatest endings ever and too close friends who were willing to absolutely go to war with no animosity what so ever then go out and enjoy the after party together after.

Extremely under rated fight.

The Pete Sell comeback, the Ed Herman loss, and the Nick Diaz loss are pretty much the only things I remember about Scott Smith.

What about Cung Le ? That was probably the biggest moment in his career.

I was 26 when UFC one came out. I use to do amateur boxing and something we always asked was who would win in a fight? This included body builders and karate guys and kick boxers and wwf guys etc. It was a fuck of a lot harder back then to guess because there was no internet or youtube. So yeah, we were pumped for it when we seen it.
For the nerds....

If by playing possum you mean, throwing everything you have into one last hail Mary punch hoping it lands because you are badly hurt then yes.

He literally collapsed in pain.
The way he watched pete run in with his hands down always made me think he was selling it a little bit, but this makes it even more legendary

Another memorable moment was when he lost to David Terrell. The ref called for them to break and Terrell just took Scott down and tapped him with an RNC. Shitty officiating but that's why they tell you to protect yourself at all times.
Paul daleys ko of him was a beautiful hook

What’s better? This or Yair vs KZ finish?
Had kz in a 3 fighter parlay that night. Hit the first 2 and was counting my money. I'd have to look at the card to remember who I bet. Woulda won a hundo and some change or something. Still cant believe that shit.

Shit yeah that’s right, I remember that

I wasn't a id when Scott Smith was fighting but I was most definitely still a young buck. Scott was a JBG disciple before we even had a term for it. So many come from behind KO wins to choose from but my personal fave was him flattening Benji Radach, an incredibly powerful striker in his own right who just never managed to win the big one. Benji hurt Smith multiple times in this one with some clean left hooks, but Smith persevered and halfway through the third he did this:

On its own that's an amazing career highlight but like I said, Scott Smith did that all the freakin' time!

When he wasn't getting finished with body shots.

He ko'd Cung Le when Le was the man in Strikeforce.

The Daley loss was nasty. One of those fsceplants that makes you feel a little bad for the guy

Scott was a durable guy with good power. His ceiling was below a belt contender and probably not quite as well rounded as he should have been, but he was a lot of fun to watch. I have a soft spot for fighters that aren't as athletically gifted but still achieve high marks in their career.
