When did Jon Jones became a draw?

A lot of folks here think that UFC will pay a crap ton of cash to usada to get Jones free sooner but when did Jones become such a huge draw? The huge draws in the UFC are conor, GSP and Brock. Jones did what, 300k in his return fight against osp. He did good numbers only when fighting against Cormier and that's it.
Don't get when he became this huge draw.

Dude do you even follow MMA?

300k would be a home run compared to some of the shows we've had this year

LOL at the 2 boneheads below. They didnt read the thread and are only responding to the thread title. Look at them ramble on from only the persepective of their bubble

Jones is and never has been a star. Jones isn't even in the top 5

1. Conor McGregor

-UFC 189: McGregor vs Mendes - 825k
-UFC 194: McGregor vs Aldo - 1.025 mil
-UFC 196: McGregor vs Diaz 1 - 1.32 mil
-UFC 202: McGregor vs Diaz 2 - 1.65 mil
-UFC 205: McGregor vs Alvarez - 1.3 mil
* McGregor vs Mayweather - 4.3 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 10'420'000(including Mayweather) 6'120'000 (excluding)
Average number of PPV buys: 1'736'666(including Mayweather) 1'224'000 (excluding)

*Very impressive to see the total and average amount of PPV's sold with so little fights in the UFC. McGregor is definitely "P4P' the top draw the UFC has ever had, including or excluding the Mayweather fight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. George St-Pierre

-UFC 65: GSP vs Hughes - 500k
-UFC 69: GSP vs Serra 1 - 400k
-UFC 74: Couture vs Gonzaga - 520k
-UFC 79: GSP vs Hughes 3 - 620k
-UFC 83: GSP vs Serra 2 - 530k
-UFC 87: GSP vs Fitch - 625k
-UFC 94: GSP vs Penn 2 - 920k
-UFC 100: Lesnar vs Mir 2 - 1.6m
-UFC 111: GSP vs Hardy - 770k
-UFC 124: GSP vs Koscheck - 785k
-UFC 129: GSP vs Shields - 800k
-UFC 154: GSP vs Condit - 700k
-UFC 158: GSP vs Diaz - 950k
-UFC 167: GSP vs Hendricks - 630k
-UFC 217: GSP vs Bisping - 825k

Total amount of PPV's sold: 11'175'00
Average number of PPV buys: 745'000

*George St-Pierre is the fighter who sold the most amount of PPV's at 11.1 mil. GSP is a very consistent draw. If it wasn't for his average number of PPV's being 500k - 1 mil lower to McGregor's, he would be N.1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Brock Lesnar

-UFC 81: Sylvia vs Nog - 600k
-UFC 87: GSP vs Fitch - 625k
-UFC 91: Lesnar vs Couture - 1.01 mil
-UFC 100: Lesnar vs Mir 2 - 1.6 mil
-UFC 116: Lesnar vs Carwin - 1.06 mil
-UFC 121: Lesnar vs Velasquez - 900k
-UFC 141: Lesnar vs Overeem - 535k
-UFC 200: Tate vs Nunes - 1.01 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 7'340'000
Average number of PPV buys: 917'500

*Lesnar takes third. Less PPV's sold than GSP but a higher average.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Ronda Rousey

-UFC 157: Rousey vs Carmouche - 450k
-UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman 2 - 1.02 mil
-UFC 170: Rousey vs McMann - 350k
-UFC 175: Weidman vs Machida - 545k
-UFC 184: Rousey vs Zingano - 600k
-UFC 190: Rousey vs Betch - 900k
-UFC 193: Rousey vs Holms - 1.1 mil
-UFC 207: Rousey vs Nunes - 1.1 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 6'065'000
Average number of PPV buys: 758'125

* Another fighter who pullied impressive number for the amount of events fought. Higher average than GSP, but almost half the total amount of PPV's sold.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Anderson Silva

-UFC 64: Silva vs Franklin - 300k
-UFC 67: Silva vs Lutter - 400k
-UFC 73: Ortiz vs Evans - 425k
-UFC 77: Silva vs Franklin 2 - 325k
-UFC 85: Silva vs Henderson - 320k
-UFC 90: Silva vs Cote - 300k
-UFC 97: Silva vs Leites - 670k
-UFC 101: Penn vs Florian - 850k
-UFC 112: Silva vs Maia - 500k
-UFC 117: Silva vs Sonnen 1 - 600k
-UFC 126: Silva vs Belfort - 725k
-UFC 134: Silva vs Okami - 334k
-UFC 148: Silva vs Sonnen 2 - 925k
-UFC 153: Silva vs Bonnar - 410k
-UFC 162: Silva vs Weidman 1 - 550k
-UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman 2 - 1.02 mil
-UFC 183: Silva vs Diaz - 650k

Total amount of PPV's sold: 9'304'000
Average number of PPV buys: 547'294

*Although his average number of sales is much lower than the fighters above him, he was the main or co-main event on 17 UFC cards

All credit goes to @DatSamboKid for crunching up the numbers

Lol “Jones isn’t even top 5”

Proceeds to list 4 people that will fight 4 total times in the future, and Conor.

Among people who will fight 3 or more times ever again, he’s number 2.

75% of people tuning into Jones now are probably just doing so to see the next train wreck hes involved in..
They watch him fight, in order to see him mess up outside of the fight?

Interdasting...

lol at this thread. One of the ten biggest draws in MMA history is not a draw.

You must be Jones himself or his PR shill team haha. But you are terrible at your job lol; )

You just proved what I said even further. That Jones IS OVER PAID. That the UFC actually losses money when ever they put Jones on as a "headliner" (also ufc 151 debacle)

Jones's only profitable fight for the UFC was DC...and even then, considering how overhyped it was...to only have gotten 800k is disappointing. Jones has never even cracked 1million, while fighters like Wiedman have

You keep deflecting from the fact that Jones is NOT a top 5 draw, has never been a draw, and will never be a draw

He doesn't do record numbers... but with the right opponent the guy can sell a PPV. Not sure about his return... Seems like only the hardcore fan … good or bad... even mentions him.

This is the best post I have ever read on Sherdog and nominate it for best post ever. I will now call in the Mayberry to deliberate. I am no groundhog expert so I can’t just declare something like this without a hearty debate.

What are you on about? Jones is facing a possible 4 year suspension while Conor is fighting in 2 months. Derp

Regardless, what ever non-point you think you "responded" with, Jones isn't even in the top 5, and those are the FACTS.

Well, the LHW division used to be the franchise. It wouldn't surprise me to find the UFC doing shady shit to revitalize their divisional cash-cow.

I'm not speaking toward this claim that the UFC is rolling payolla to USADA. I'm only responding to the idea you're presenting that Jones is not worth such thingz.... as you seem to be alluding to.

Your assessment is likely confused due to only considering the "very top fighters" vs what Jones has historically drawn. However, this is not a complete conversation if you only dismiss his drawing power compared to ONLY THE VERY TOP drawing people. You are kind of correct that he only drew near those top numbers vs. DC... because the Shogun fight waz up there too... but the point I want to make is that you are incorrect in dismissing that as having nothing to do with Jones himself. It takes 2 to tango... & Jones got 3 fights that are over the levy.

Outside of his comparison to "ONLY THE TOP GUYS"... Jones is pretty much good for almost doubling or trippling the PPV draws of a "typical" card... you can see where he might have more value to the UFC once you look at the entire landscape.

03/19/11 UFC 128 Shogun vs. Jones 490,000
09/24/11 UFC 135 Jones vs. Rampage 520,000
12/10/11 UFC 140 Jones vs. Machida 480,000
04/21/12 UFC 145 Jones vs. Evans 700,000
09/22/12 UFC 152 Jones vs. Belfort 450,000
04/27/13 UFC 159 Jones vs Sonnen 530,000
09/21/13 UFC 165 Jones vs Gustafsson 310,000
04/26/14 UFC 172 Jones vs Teixeira 350,000
01/03/15 UFC 182 Jones vs Cormier 800,000
04/23/16 UFC 197 Jones vs. Saint Preux 322,000
07/29/17 UFC 214 Cormier vs. Jones II 860,000

These are fooking HUGE numbers compared to what the rest of the roster waz drawing. I digress that some are just standard... but they are never at the bottom of the scale... & then add in the spikes in there & you really get a nice view of why Jones is worth something to the UFC.

Now all that historic stuff aside... his potential is through the roof. If they can just get him to quit fooking around, it's not too hard to imagine how he could be the next steady mill PPV draw. On the real... he's about the only one in clear site that I can see atm.

After GSP retired, BJ retired, Anderson broke his leg and after Ronda lost. When all the major stars of the sport moved on is when he was pushed to the forefront as the best fighter in the UFC.

He messed all that up though with his legal and USADA problems. He would've made so much money in the last 3 years because he was one of the few bankable stars the UFC had left.

Who does he fight when he returns? Gustafsson? I think he will draw some good numbers when he returns as long as he sells himself well.

When he beat Stephan Bonner at such a young age doing all types of slick shit during the fight... that put him on people's radar...

This is when he first got famous. The forum was going nuts over him after this fight. Everyone one this forum loved the dude too until he was champion and his true colors started to show.

You are as hilariously dumb as you were on your last 4 accounts, lmao.

You've already admitted Jones averaged 500k per PPV. That is a HUGE draw compared to today's cards. Are you even paying attention??

Jones is only a bigger name now given how he KTFO DC and could come back to destroy everyone.

His potential to draw buys is very high, and his track record of sales is higher than almost every other "star" the UFC currently has.

Make sure you read that word CURRENTLY. Quoting PPV sales from Ronda or GSPs prime is just making you look stupid.

Jones is as big a draw as the UFC has the chance of using, outside of conor's fight-once-every-2-years ass.
