When did Jon Jones became a draw?

Conor is a big draw due to how infrequently he fights and all the hoopla and drama surrounding his fights. Jones has been a consistent draw since his title win 8 years ago, fighting multiple times a year since, and dominating everyone.

When he became the eye pokin, weed tokin, steroid usin, pregnant woman abusin, coke inhalin, USADA failin son of a gun!

@TerraRayzing - Jones isn't a draw (see Gustafsson and Teixeira PPVs).

He's not, he does good numbers with DC because of the feud, or people that were already established stars (Rampage, Rashad etc), but when he's the main draw (like his fights with Gus, Glover etc), he did very average numbers.

Every time he has been on the cusp of becoming a mainstream star he fucked it up.

LOL at the 2 boneheads below. They didnt read the thread and are only responding to the thread title. Look at them ramble on from only the persepective of their bubble

Jones is and never has been a star. Jones isn't even in the top 5

1. Conor McGregor

-UFC 189: McGregor vs Mendes - 825k
-UFC 194: McGregor vs Aldo - 1.025 mil
-UFC 196: McGregor vs Diaz 1 - 1.32 mil
-UFC 202: McGregor vs Diaz 2 - 1.65 mil
-UFC 205: McGregor vs Alvarez - 1.3 mil
* McGregor vs Mayweather - 4.3 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 10'420'000(including Mayweather) 6'120'000 (excluding)
Average number of PPV buys: 1'736'666(including Mayweather) 1'224'000 (excluding)

*Very impressive to see the total and average amount of PPV's sold with so little fights in the UFC. McGregor is definitely "P4P' the top draw the UFC has ever had, including or excluding the Mayweather fight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. George St-Pierre

-UFC 65: GSP vs Hughes - 500k
-UFC 69: GSP vs Serra 1 - 400k
-UFC 74: Couture vs Gonzaga - 520k
-UFC 79: GSP vs Hughes 3 - 620k
-UFC 83: GSP vs Serra 2 - 530k
-UFC 87: GSP vs Fitch - 625k
-UFC 94: GSP vs Penn 2 - 920k
-UFC 100: Lesnar vs Mir 2 - 1.6m
-UFC 111: GSP vs Hardy - 770k
-UFC 124: GSP vs Koscheck - 785k

-UFC 154: GSP vs Condit - 700k
-UFC 158: GSP vs Diaz - 950k
-UFC 167: GSP vs Hendricks - 630k
-UFC 217: GSP vs Bisping - 825k

Total amount of PPV's sold: 11'175'00
Average number of PPV buys: 745'000

*George St-Pierre is the fighter who sold the most amount of PPV's at 11.1 mil. GSP is a very consistent draw. If it wasn't for his average number of PPV's being 500k - 1 mil lower to McGregor's, he would be N.1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Brock Lesnar

-UFC 81: Sylvia vs Nog - 600k
-UFC 87: GSP vs Fitch - 625k
-UFC 91: Lesnar vs Couture - 1.01 mil
-UFC 100: Lesnar vs Mir 2 - 1.6 mil
-UFC 116: Lesnar vs Carwin - 1.06 mil
-UFC 121: Lesnar vs Velasquez - 900k
-UFC 141: Lesnar vs Overeem - 535k
-UFC 200: Tate vs Nunes - 1.01 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 7'340'000
Average number of PPV buys: 917'500

*Lesnar takes third. Less PPV's sold than GSP but a higher average.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Ronda Rousey

-UFC 157: Rousey vs Carmouche - 450k
-UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman 2 - 1.02 mil
-UFC 170: Rousey vs McMann - 350k

-UFC 193: Rousey vs Holms - 1.1 mil
-UFC 207: Rousey vs Nunes - 1.1 mil

Total amount of PPV's sold: 6'065'000
Average number of PPV buys: 758'125

* Another fighter who pullied impressive number for the amount of events fought. Higher average than GSP, but almost half the total amount of PPV's sold.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Anderson Silva

-UFC 64: Silva vs Franklin - 300k
-UFC 67: Silva vs Lutter - 400k
-UFC 73: Ortiz vs Evans - 425k
-UFC 77: Silva vs Franklin 2 - 325k
-UFC 85: Silva vs Henderson - 320k
-UFC 90: Silva vs Cote - 300k
-UFC 97: Silva vs Leites - 670k
-UFC 101: Penn vs Florian - 850k
-UFC 112: Silva vs Maia - 500k
-UFC 117: Silva vs Sonnen 1 - 600k
-UFC 126: Silva vs Belfort - 725k

-UFC 153: Silva vs Bonnar - 410k
-UFC 162: Silva vs Weidman 1 - 550k
-UFC 168: Silva vs Weidman 2 - 1.02 mil
-UFC 183: Silva vs Diaz - 650k

Total amount of PPV's sold: 9'304'000
Average number of PPV buys: 547'294

*Although his average number of sales is much lower than the fighters above him, he was the main or co-main event on 17 UFC cards

Credit to @DatSamboKid for crunching up all the numbers

Jones draws in and around 500k per PPV he headlines. His lowest number was 325k and he has gone as high as 800k. He is easily a top 7 all time MMA draw in terms of being able to consistently get to the 500k mark.

So, I’m not a bonehead. You’re just a little emotional is all. Blood coming out of you’re vagina can do that. Not a big deal tho. I understand.

Yeah, and honestly in this age of sport being a big draw often has little to do with your ability. Being a huge draw isn't necessarily something to be proud of anymore since Mayweather set the blueprint for gathering attraction through INFAMY rather than fame.

You're delusional .

Jones hadnt fought in a while up until his return against OSP, all kinds of drama, still only pulled 200k against OSP

Conor was fighting 4 times a year up until 2017 too

And as if what you claimed has anything to do with anything

No, It couldnt have been Conor's all star personality, charisma, his incredible skill set, his incredible run, predicting the outcomes of his fights, his genius ability to promote and then deliver in the fights.

There's never been anyone else like Conor in combat sports history ever

Dana White: "Conor is a unicorn"

Jones isn't even in the top 5. Go look at the numbers from datsambokid that I posted on page 1

Jones could fight once every 3 years, or once ever month, it wont matter. Jones is simply NOT a draw. Only sherdog nerds even talk about him or care about him

This is the best post I have ever read on Sherdog and nominate it for best post ever. I will now call in the Mayberry to deliberate. I am no groundhog expert so I can’t just declare something like this without a hearty debate.

@KONG-D'SNT-TAP @Clippy @Loiosh @Anung Un Rama @KnightTemplar @Kardashians @Jack Handy jr @Madmick @Kardashians @Dragonlordxxxxx @Zer @Peteyandjia

I can’t remember the entire Mayberry but this is a good start

Absolutely TERRIBLE numbers by Jones considering how much he is hyped and how much the UFC tried to shove Jones down our throats

In fact the UFC losses money every time Jones fights (unless it's against DC)

You sound incredibly hurt. Stay salty fanboy. Jones isn't even a top 5 draw

Hate or love him, Bones is the epitome of a perfect MMA fighter

When Greg Jackson told him "go get some fans"

Jon Jones was never a draw, isn't a draw now, and will never be a draw

Jones averages 500k a PPV. Jones isn't even in the top 5

Only forum nerds on sherdog know about Jones.

That's called a draw in 2018

When he started taking Dick Pills, so pretty much since the beginning

75% of people tuning into Jones now are probably just doing so to see the next train wreck hes involved in..

Being unbeatable makes u a draw!! Fans tune in to see u keep destorying opponents or they tune in to see u lose.

A lot of folks here think that UFC will pay a crap ton of cash to usada to get Jones free sooner but when did Jones become such a huge draw? The huge draws in the UFC are conor, GSP and Brock. Jones did what, 300k in his return fight against osp. He did good numbers only when fighting against Cormier and that's it.
Don't get when he became this huge draw.
He’s not a draw. You’re right. He is however probably the goat MMA fighter and there comes a time when therewcm

who cares ? Is that all it comes down to ? How many people buy someone’s ppvs? Does that determine how good a fighter is ? Clearly not. He’s the goat and there comes a point when that should be respected above all else.

The ufc have to pay him and want him if they want to he the best org then they need the greatest fighter on the planet

wipe the semen off your lips

all I said was Jones has been a consistent draw over 8 years. His marketing was from his domination, not his mouth. Obviously Conor is a bigger draw, but I question how his drawing power would be if he consistently had to fight guys like Glover Tex, OSP, Ryan Bader, Gus, etc over many years. Eventually people won't shell out 75$ to watch that shit

Almost every one of his fights since Mendes has been a super fight, out of weight class spectacle, or champ champ fight

I think Jones vs. Stipe or Jones vs. Lesnar would do well.

Plus Jones is in the weakest division in MMA

now go get a rag, nerd
