I don’t think it’s mainstream, people are just less inclined to be ashamed of their kinks on the internet. There were some news stories about it, but there were news stories about key parties and other sensationalized polyamory in the past. As for the rise of it's use now?

I have a theory.

In my experience, around the time dudes had to quit call each other "f a g" because that was now considered an unacceptable antigay slur instead of a go to one syllable insult... they transitioned to calling people "cucks". In their minds it was a similar role, to denigrate another guy and suggest that he is a pansy and unmanly.


As for actual full blown swingers, is this even on the rise or is it simply an issue of people who were deep in the cuck/swinger closet being more open about it in the modern era?
