Movies Whats your Top 5 underrated films?

# 1. American Me
It is far superior to that trash buffoonery of Blood In, Blood Out that everyone loves so much for some reason I still cant understand!
Shot Caller too, right?

James Woods fresh out of prison decided to run a boxing scam with Oliver Platt and Louis Gosset Jr tagging along. This is the best movie youve never heard of. Got a bit of everyhting. Some comedy, some crime drama, some con man stuff. Just a great movie full of great actors and Oliver Platt absolutely Platts every scene he's in.

Thats all I got. This is basically my all time "Top Underrated film". Most people havent heard of it and it gets decent but not stellar scores from outlets. It's fucking great.

2. ...'Sunshine' is an alltime favorite and just brilliant in every way IMHO. One of the best sci-fi film made in my view but hardly anyone knows about it. Danny Boyle directs, actors include Chris Evans and Rose Byrne and Cillian Murphy.

I think Sunshine is a science fiction masterpiece. It almost feels like an indie budget space film but the effects were definitely ahead of it's time. There are a few scenes where it looked almost practical.

The Tall Man (2012) - mistakenly marketed as a horror movie, it's actually a well acted mystery movie that asks the audience an interesting question at the end.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) - woke hipsters getting carved up with a chainsaw for 90 minutes. What more could you ask for?

Margin Call (2011) great cast. Everyone knocks it out of the park. A much more serious approach than The Big Short.

Just Before Dawn (1981). Beautifully shot backwoods horror movie with some gruesome kills and a great twist ending.

The Founder (2016). Michael Keaton is great. This is a really offbeat biopic about a guy who just refused to accept defeat.

Came here to post Margin Call. One of the best finance movies I've ever seen, just an outstanding movie with so many good acting performances.

Tron: Legacy - 6.8 IMDB/ Gorgeous film with a fun plot. I've had more than a few people that were upset with me over the recommendation. High 8's imo

Risky Business - 6.8 IMDB/ The catalyst of superstardom for Tom Cruise and arguably the most important 1980's contribution from Hollywood which opened at the exact time pop culture was sobering up from a 70's hangover. Easily a 9+

Red Rock West - 7.0 IMDB/ Near flawless film, as close to a 9 as it gets for a small film not trying to achieve epic status.

Devil Inside - 4.2 IMDB/ should be around 6.8-7.0 imo. Above average for the 2000's horror genre, and yet still, I can understand why no one liked it

The Burbs - 6.8 IMDB? <Prem974>
One of the GOATs of any genre. THE perfect film.
WTF even is the point of humanity?

I think Awakenings is kind of high rated but I have it in my favorite films of all time.

Punisher War Zone
Crank 2
Kung Fu Hustle
these are some A+ shouts (love the first Crank too). although, i’m not sure i’d consider Kung Fu Hustle underrated, but a nice shout nonetheless. i also think these ones are great but underrated/unappreciated:

Hardcore Henry
Kill
Nobody
Pacific Rim

Some others:
The Fantastic Voyage
Inner space
Memoirs of an Invisible Man
Forced Vengeance
Secret of my Success
Rapid Fire

Agreed.
Effects were stunning.
Music score was epic.
Acting was top notch. For eg. The Mace death scene i thought was very well done and believable.

Peanut butter falcon
I really need to watch this. It looked neat. Then my mother told me that I needed to watch it and described it to me. That made my father crack up laughing. (Special needs + professional wrestling = sleepwalk, apparently)

Naked (1993) - very bleak movie with a titanic performance from David Thewlis

Saving Silverman (2001) - seemingly forgotten Jack Black vehicle with Steve Zahn. I always thought this was the funniest shit Black ever did though

Beast Cops (1998) - Hong Kong police action movie with the underrated Anthony Wong, this never really took off like other HK movies of the time but I was lucky enough to discover it

Wishmaster (1997) - this is a horror movie that turned into a schlocky franchise but I never see this getting much love. Andrew Divoff, a natural villain, plays an evil Djinn that grants wishes with hilariously ironic and gory consequences

Nil by Mouth (1997) - super bleak and depressing movie about alcoholism, directed by Gary Oldman and starring Ray Winstone who completely knocks it out of the park

It's hard to pick just 5, because I know more will come to me but off the top of my head...

No Escape

Autopsy of Jane Doe

Vacancy

Dead End

Fear

Case 39

Dead Man's Shoes

Stalked by my Doctor
