They say WMMA is dying.

A couple of threads have appeared lately that got me reminiscing about the chick who made it all happen in the first place.

That statistic, only one KO this entire year is embarrassing... It wasn't supposed to be this way...

Ronda arrived as an absolute wrecking ball, and didn't disappoint... 14 fights, zero decisions, with only two fights making it out of the first round over her career - even Ngannou doesn't have that kind of finish rate. Its crazy... Part of the spectacle with Ronda was that she went all-in every time, frequently getting into danger before pulling a rabbit out of a hat finish...

Ronda brought something unique. People loved her at first, then they hated her... But even then she was still selling fights - at the end everyone wanted her to get beaten, and it happened twice in spectacular fashion... There hasn't been anything close to the drama, buzz, and delivery on WMMA fights since.

Its not hard to imagine that without a major female star coming through soon that we will see less and less WMMA on the cards...

She looked ok back in the day too. Strikeforce Honda was TST.

She even got it on with Sherdog's favourite podcaster.

What's everyone's take now nearly 6 years on from her last fight? Has the dust settled onto a decent legacy, or did her entitled behavior pollute the fountain waters of her memory forever?

She was definitely good to watch on her run of finishes. However what I remember most is the shocking strategy change for her last 2 fights. Don't know what her coach was thinking trying to turn her into a boxer. Yes work on your striking but the bread and butter for her was on the mat but she wasn't even trying to get there v Nunes and v Holly her attempts half hearted. Seemed she wanted to prove she was the best striker as well.

I was shocked at her behavior on the TUF show, unbelievable. This clip sums us the entire show.

The editing in TUF could've been more one-sided to create more drama.
Zuffa pumped alot of money to blow Ronda up in the media and it worked, Ronda believed too much in the hype and it contributed to her big loss against Holm. Still fun while it lasted.

She was very good but she bought into her own hype and got way too comfortable thinking she could impose her will on everyone without needing to improve. Her ego was her best and worst friend. Also, not fighting Cyborg was a very good decision for her career.

She had some impressive moments, especially the Zingano fight. I thought Cat would win and then she pulled that shit and Ronda capitalized in pretty amazing fashion. You have to respect things like that.
That was the best time in the division to date for me. Exciting fights with lots of finishes, rock paper scissors matchups. My girl Miesha even got to hold the belt briefly. Ronda put the division on the map and had a lot of fun fights. I don't get the hate.

I'll remember Rousey for blazing a trail and dominating with first round finishes. She lost to Holm who outmatched her in striking and footwork. Then to Nunes who decimated her. Now wmma is in every major mma organization. Many fighters are more well-rounded. I enjoy it.

Single handedly saved WMMA.
One of the most exciting fighters out there, with 30 second wins.
Knew how to sell a fight.

I wish she could have handled her losses and stayed in there, but what she DID do was fuckin awesome. Changed the game forever.

I love how people act like she is hitler, but defend colby

"oh its just words.."

Well words is all Ronda ever did. She didnt cheat, she didnt miss weight, she didnt use roids, didnt attack anyone in the back. All she did was sell fights.

Oh yeah I agree. That was by far the best time in the division. So many people praying she would lose (including me) was hilarious and it made everyone watch. I understand why so many people didn't like her but you can also appreciate what she did.

" fuck pvz, fuckin part time fighter only fans bitch"

:: Ronda curses her out ::

"Oh poor baby, why would your hurt the poor little girl...so mean!!!!"

I hated her but it was fun.

Same with Conor, O'Malley and all these douchey types. They make for entertaining fights and it's fun to root against them.

The hype was basically a love/hate thing aiming either at simplistic wokeness or angry sherdog incels.

As a fighter really I'd view her as a high end grappler who never advanced beyond being a brawler standing and fell too in love with it.
