What's Your Next Purchase? V5

Yeah I take an ammo can or two out with me but the ammo is still in boxes.

I usually go with a friend that has a raptor. 70-100+ mph through the desert, plus some bumps/hills in the dirt road that we get air on is rough on the ammo cans lol
I live in PNW so I drive up old logging trails and into old gravel pits. F150 FX4 so I COULD drive quick down those but I'd rather not with all the fucking blind corners and like lane a 3/4 of a lane wide gravel tracks.

Colt showed an M16A1 clone at the SHOT Show.

While I have to admit I would like a Gen II Vortex Viper PST FFP that goes up to about 25 magnification but I wonder if the local gun store here that does layaway would do layaway on a comparable (features wise) Leupold.... hhhrrrmmmmm

Hell, what WOULD be a feature comparable Leupold? I don't know much about their scopes and the fact that all of them are like Mark 8, 6, V, or 4 confuses me.

What's your price point?

MK 8 and 6 are starting at like 2600+, awesome scopes

I'd like to keep it around $1500. It's hard to find anything FFP with Mil reticle and Mil adjustments that ISN'T Vortex at that price point. IF I could do layaway at that store I'd be more willing to take the plunge on a MK8 or 6

The Burris XTR has admittedly kinda caught my eye

Maybe look at Burris and Bushnell.

Try to go look at the Burris XTR II 5-25X50.

http://www.burrisoptics.com/scopes/xtr-ii-riflescopes-series/xtr-ii-riflescope-5-25x50mm

Street price is closer to 1k.

Bushnell has the Argon Elite 6-24 and 4.5-30, cheaper but maybe worth looking at if you can.

Bushnell ERS 3.5-21x50, I think dvor has this on sale from time time for close to 1k. There is the ERS, dmr, hdmr, not sure the difference.

Thanks man.

Guess I'll just have to save for the XTR and hope I can find one around 1k.

Would you guys trust purchasing scopes from like Amazon?

I miss my raptor.

1000 rounds of Sellier & Bellot .45

This has become my favorite ammo. Great price and this ammo shoots very clean for me.

Just bought 3 axts charging handles for future builds.

I need a new scope for my 77/22. In the past I always just put cheap bushnells or Simmons scopes on 22s because I don't use them all that much and never saw much point in spending big $$$ to take 50ud shots.

Now this guy I know has gotten me all fired up for grouse hunting, I guess he shoots them or of trees with a 22 so I want to get something a bit nicer. The 77/22 is nice anyhow so it should have a better scope.

I can't decide between the leupold rimfire and the vortex rimfire, leupold is like 30 dollars more but I really like the compact design of it. Vortex is cool too though...

Anybody have the leupold or vortex rimfire scopes? They are both in the 200 dollar range. I've read reports of some of the newer weaver rimfire scopes just being junk.

My dad has a Weaver Rimfire scope on his Marlin.

Have you thought about a 1-4x20(or 24) or 1-6x24 centerfire. Large eye relief, quick acquiring, compact.

Yeah that looks about like what my friend does. How old is your dads weaver? The older ones were awesome but aparently the new ones just aren't the same quality.

At least 30 years if not more.

I hadn't really thought of it before but it's something to look into, I have a 1-4x24 on my 375, I suppose I could try it out on the 22.

Stupid question though, isnt there something about rimfire scopes that's specifically designed for that type of cartridge? Or no?

Shorter fixed Parallax and sometimes lower starting AO (if available). So with the longer parallax if your technique is off it can slightly affect shot placement. If you are trying to shoot groups you want something with an AO. Hunting as long as you feel you use good technique and repeatable consistent cheek welds it shouldn't be an issue. So lets say you got something with 100y fixed parallax , even then the maximum parallax error you could make would be at 10 yards and it would be .4"(very different cheek weld vs sighting in) That max error shrinks every yard out to 100 yards(0 error) then starts to widen every yard after that.

Here is a comparison and these are maximum error, so a pretty different hold vs sighting in.

100 parallax 24mm objective lens

Yards inches
10 .425
20 .378
30 .331
40 .283
50 .236
60 .189
70 .142
80 .094
90 .047
100 .0

50y parallax 24mm ol

10 .378
20 .283
30 .189
40 .094
50 0
60 .094
70 .189
80 .283
90 .378
100 .472

So basically I think I would go centerfire. It's more versatile and you have more options. You need to have better technique and it is slightly less forgiving is the downside. Just Google parallax error calculator if you wanted to compare other things.

MIGHT have found my 6.5 Creedmoor's scope:

https://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/vx-3i-riflescopes/vx-3i-lrp-8-5-25x50mm-30mm-side-focus-mil/

FFP model lists at $999 on OpticsPlanet so I am sure I can find it at a better price elsewhere.

Comes with a throw lever already installed and it has a cover for the windage turret and has thread protector that you can put on instead of the cap in case you want to run an exposed windage turrett.

They have those burris Xtr ii 5-25 on dvor for 915-999

Saw a kimber Montana in 223 for a great price in a local shop. I would have gotten it but my wife was with me....lol.

I'm thinking of trying to head back in a day or 2 to grab it.

I was actually thinking of just playing with it a. It then surprising my friend who lives up north as he hunts with a 223 but just has an old shitty one because he uses any money he makes to do stuff for the village he's in.

This guy is a legit subsistance hunter, he kills bears and moose, caribou too with a 223.
