What's Your Next Purchase? V5

Gun show in my town this weekend. Going to go and look and see what their prices are on 6.5 either Savage Axis, Rem 700, or Ruger American.

Just a dumb question for people, the 6.5 Creedmore is considered a "short action" no matter the make of the rifle yeah?

I've watched that vid and it's cool but I hate the idea of electronics in my gun for some reason for anything other than the illumination in say a scope.
I absolutely agree, although for the $ this looks good for a fun-gun especially vs something like a slidefire when you consider the breakless 1lb trigger + rapid fire

Waiting for usps like...

Had to call American Express to get involved. Had to begin callin weekly for an update, where they would tell me I should get my rifle next week, or they would tell me they would get back to me but never call me back. Now they don't even answer their phones.

So now Amex is going to mediate, they issued me credit but said the dealer has a month to deliver if they don't they will refund me.

Some fucking bullshit

Yeah 6.5 Creedmoor is short action, unless some company has some stupid proprietary name for their actions(that I'm not aware of).

Lately every time I scroll down and see your name in here I prepare to facepalm at the nonsense you are being put through. Post didn't disappoint.

Going to try and rummage around the gun show this weekend to see if they have a 6.5 Creedmoor from RSavage Axis that I can Frankengun then I guess.

Figure I can get like a Timney drop-in trigger to upgrade that, then pull the barrel off and then get a nice barrel from like Proof or these guys:
http://www.x-caliber.net/bolt-action-barrels

And get a nice muzzle brake for it and then a chassis. Another like 6 month experiment or something. Debating if I should use the standard Vortex Viper 6-24 I have on this precision bolt gun project or not....

I'd love to have a FFP piece of glass on it but the ones I look at are all near $1000. FUCK

Got my Benchmade Gold Class 710-141 axis.

$550 shipped. But I can probably resell for around 700. It will only increase in value (I assume). There is another one I'm looking out for as well.

Nice.

Need to go shooting this weekend. Grrr

I've never personally found good deals(compared to online) at gun shows. Then again I'm usually not looking for used. I went to crossroads a couple months ago and just seeing the "deals" after what I saw on black Friday was pretty laughable.

I'm going to look at compare prices to what I saw on like Bud's or have heard from local shops.

Like, if I go in there and some dude is selling JUST the short action for a Savage Axis for like $100 I'll probably spring. Meaning the trigger, bolt, and housing and that's it I'd jump.

Unless it's in a tikka or a weatherby MKV, they don't make a short action, they just put a bolt stop on so the bolt dosent go back as far.

Makes sense for the tikkas as they are quite affordable (and insanely accurate out of the box) so for the price it's great. I never understood why weatherby would do it though, those MKV rifles are expensive they could at least make a short/long action....

Tikka is like the budget line from sako and I think sako makes 4 different action sizes I think howa does too.

You can get a ruger American in .260 for like 299 bucks...

If I was making a project precision rifle I wouldn't even consider anything other than a Remington 700.

About 5 years back I got a 700sps tactical in a trade, I took off the shitty hogue stock and put it into an hs precision stock I took of a Remington 5r earlier then put a timney trigger I had laying around that I'd taken out of another 700 before selling it.

I bedded the action and put a badger rail and rings on it as well as a vortex pst, just used a shitty Harris bipod.

That thing is a shooter, I've only used it out to around 600yds but my friend has used it in a competition out to 1100yds with excellent results, no blue printing, no expensive barrel, it's a pretty impressive rifle for what went into it.

If I remember right I think I traded a glock 30 that wasn't being used for it, all the other stuff I just had in parts boxes, even the scope was something I already had.

I've only found gun shows to be good for finding older stuff, everything always seems expensive at the gun shows compared to shops or the internet. I've found lots of good shit at shows, but never stumbled onto any sweet deals or anything like that.

Aren't the more recent R700s having some... well.. issues QC wise though?

Some people say so, I personally haven't seen any real problems. I also think most of the problems come from those ultra budget models, you know the ones that come with a scope, sling and hard case for 399.00.

Seems like if you are going to tear it apart anyhow it shouldn't matter much anyways.

I've shot Remington's for years and even though I don't really use them much anymore, it's not because I don't like them but just because they don't really make a model that interests me all that much except the 700 mountain rifle, if I hadn't of got the weatherby back country I probably would have gotten the mountain rifle or that new American wilderness rifle they just came out with.

Last summer I used a 700bdl in 30-06 in Alaska and it was reliable and accurate, no manufacturing problems, it was the wrong gun for that job though as it wasn't weather resistant and it got sort of fucked up. I actually threw away the stock when I got back, the rest of it is at my dads house and will be a project gun, basically a new stock and maybe re finish it.

If I were building something with plans to work on the action and re barrel, I'd just grab a cheap 700 and get it blueprinted.

I'll always have a soft spot for 700s. My dad has a BDL in 30-06 that he got in the 70s and that thing is still a tack driver to this day. It was also the first gun I ever shot. My dad's idea of beginning to teach gun safety was to sit me behind it at age 5 and let me shoot it downrange once. Getting blown straight on your ass as a kid teaches you some respect for firearms really quick.

I dig the mountain rifle, I'll probably end up grabbing one at some point.
