Some people say so, I personally haven't seen any real problems. I also think most of the problems come from those ultra budget models, you know the ones that come with a scope, sling and hard case for 399.00.
Seems like if you are going to tear it apart anyhow it shouldn't matter much anyways.
I've shot Remington's for years and even though I don't really use them much anymore, it's not because I don't like them but just because they don't really make a model that interests me all that much except the 700 mountain rifle, if I hadn't of got the weatherby back country I probably would have gotten the mountain rifle or that new American wilderness rifle they just came out with.
Last summer I used a 700bdl in 30-06 in Alaska and it was reliable and accurate, no manufacturing problems, it was the wrong gun for that job though as it wasn't weather resistant and it got sort of fucked up. I actually threw away the stock when I got back, the rest of it is at my dads house and will be a project gun, basically a new stock and maybe re finish it.
If I were building something with plans to work on the action and re barrel, I'd just grab a cheap 700 and get it blueprinted.
