What's Your Next Purchase? V5

Anybody have experience with this type of hunting/shotgun? I've never done much bird hunting.

No blind hunting, have done quail and dove.

Go to a large gun store when you get back, set a budget and handle them. There are a ridiculous amount of options.

One thing I've read is that the Stoeger M3500 as a great budget option. It's basically a cheaper Benelli.

I've been impressed with stoeger stuff for the price. I've shot a few of their coach guns, those things are cool. I'm not looking to. Real the bank although I could see myself getting something more affordable and the instantly getting obsessed and wishing I'd gone higher end lol....it's a disease....

Yeah that's probably what I would go with, a vortex spotting scope. I'm excited to get back next year and hunt like a madman. It would be great to get a few antelope and an elk down south with my dad then moose and caribou up north.

Jlagman talking about antelope got me all fired up. I've never been a trophy hunter, always just for meat (with exception to a few elk I've shot....but also ate). I'm thinking its time to get serious about a really nice fat antelope. Like really picking one out rather than taking the first clear shot.

I have a vanguard in 257 weatherby that has a vortex pst on it. I want to work up some awesome loads for it and use that. I've used it in the past but only with factory ammo, that's what I'd put the Harris bipod on.
I really REALLY wanted a PST FFP Viper but I can't afford it AND the gun, plus, Vortex is fucking backlogged like a motherfucker and they don't have the reticle I want available.

I definitely hear you. I have the same problem. My friends has a benelli Supersport and it is just amazing. I want one. Stupid expensive though.

Shotguns for some reason are one thing I am just not super interested in for some reason.

Dad has a Browning double barrel 20 gauge, Mossberg 500 with pistol grip and no stock in 20 gauge, and a Winchester Model 12 12 gauge so I feel like I am pretty well set.

It's fun to shoot clay pigeons. It's also pretty cheap to do.

You know what's funny... I have a trap range literally like maybe a 1/4 of a mile form my house and I've never been.
Its a great way to hang out with the guys. Unfortunately for me, last time I went was in 2013 during the ramp up to deployment. We shot at the range at Fort Polk, was a cheap and fun way for a group of us to kill some time.

Now I want to get an over under...

My issue is most of my buddies that shoot, well, all of them are really into rifles and not shotguns.

I need to look into trying trap shooting.

I havnt shot trap in ages. My dad and his brothers are really good at it. They grew up shooting trap and skeet.

Last time I went was probably 3 years ago it was me, dad and 2 of my friends. My dad absolutely owned us.

Question for you guys... scope rings, with a 50mm objective get the "high" ones?

My Viper scope. It will get mounted on a Weatherby Vanguard 2.

Measure the height of the base/rail from the front where it meets the barrel.

Find ring measurements online and calculate height from base/rail to centerline.

Measure diameter of the bell of the scope. Not objective size.

(Rail height + ring height) - (bell diameter x .5)

You want the scope to be roughly 1/32-1/16" off the barrel. That is basically 1 or 2 credit cards. If you are doing flip covers or whatever keep them in mind.

If you plan on shooting a lot in secession I'd probably go for 1/16th.

Sounds like something I almost need to wait until I have the gun and scope in hand to do

I have way more fun ringing steel with a rifle or pistol than shooting clays, personally.

As do I but mixing it up with clays from time to time is fun. I don't go to a trap range or anything. Have a cheap spring thrower that can do three at a time plus some hand held one.

I do t think I want to spend Benelli $$$ but maybe something in the 1k-1500 dollar range. And in pretty sure I want it camo colored.
