What's Your Next Purchase? V5

I shot one of those fs2000 things and didn't like it at all. I felt stupid and it was actually attracting attention at the range which I didn't like.

A friend of mine has a keltec bulpup in 308 which is pretty interesting and I've shot the steyr but never tried a tavor the desert tech looks pretty sweet too.

She asked me why I disliked magazine disconnect safeties to which I replied, "Why would I like something that makes my gun not work?"

I agree completely. First time I encountered this "safety" feature I thought the gun was broken and started freaking out.:)

Honestly I'm psyched FS2000's were discontinued so prices will rise. I'd love to unload mine at cost plus inflation (and maybe a little for my trouble). While there's some hopeful folks on Gunbroker, prices have a little bit to go yet. :(

Fuck magazine disconnects. Ruined the ruger lc9 for me. I think they make a new one without it but the one I had did have a mag disconnect.

^^^^^^ Damn, 2k? Reviews better be spectacular for that price. :)

Well the Tavor is what 1600 or more? The MDR won't need a trigger upgrade from what I've read. If their trigger is anything like it is on their DTA SRS it will be great. Plus there is the whole being able to swap calibers quickly with supossedly no zero shift. They said going from .308 to .223 would take very little time. They have an insert for the magwell that screws in to make .308 and .223 go in flush. I'm definitely interested in seeing how it all turns out and how it works.

Yeah, about that. I'd budget $2300 to get it customized/outfitted. So the MDR sounds great and at a comparable price. I want you get one so you can give us the skinny. I hope it's awesome to shoot. Especially since the looks don't draw me in like the Tavor. The MDR kinda reminds me of a porpoise or something. No offense to marine life, by the way. :D

Being able to step up a caliber vs. stepping down a caliber is a big difference between the rifles for sure.

What's the point of getting a Tavor when you can buy or build a quality AR for under $1k?

Haha I wouldn't get one right out of the gate. You always over pay and by waiting you let others figure out the problems for the company to work on and fix. But a year or so from now it may be a future purchase.

Thank the Lord for early adopters, which I'm usually not one of.

With the reputation desert tactical has in the sniper communities, I wouldn't have a huge problem buying an early model from them.

My buddy had one of their precision rifles and it was fucking awesome.

They are fonominal.

Saw a write up on them and some of our officers got to test them at Shot show. They seem amazing.

With that Mark 8 and match kings it is literally effortless to hit 5" and 6" steel targets at 350-450 yards. Another really cool thing is you can switch from 6.5 Creedmoor all the way up to .338 lapua in that chassis in under a minute.

Then there is the larger chassis that handles .375cheytac - .50bmg. Really cool design. The trigger is fantastic.

So I've decided I'm going to ramp up my hunting efforts for next year, after my poor showing this season. I'm looking to buy some camping gear, so I can spend more consecutive days in the field. I'm looking to also buy my own meat grinder/stuffer as well as other game processing essentials, so I'm not at the mercy of the local butcher. Perhaps if I can budget for it, I'll buy a progressive press; too many guns, not enough trigger time.

Buy a big freezer chest and some solid backpacking gear, a lighter rifle and some good boots.

Already have a chest freezer and what I think are good boots (Danner Pronghorn). As for camping gear, I'm looking at Western Mountaineering for a sleeping bag, I want to keep my stuff more lightweight.

As for the rifle, I'll be selling off a bunch of stuff I put on it this season. Much of it was a stop gap anyways, with the scout scope inbound, I don't think I'll need the 3-9x40 anymore nor the full length rail. That will shed some weight without having to buy a new rifle.

Yeah man, it's all about lightweight gear. Light tents, sleeping bags, pads rifles.

You could probably get a fiberglass stock for your rifle too and shed a little weight. Almost all of my hunting rifles wear nice carbon fiber stocks.

Ruger does now offer composite stocked Gunsite Scout Rifles, I just haven't heard of the stocks themselves being for sale. But even if I did that, I think my Scout would just end up being a money sink all over again.

I'll bring it back to stock, sell all the accessories (except for the mags) I bought as a stop-gap and put a Burris 2-7X33 scope on it and shoot it that way. I thought about it, and a new rifle is out of the question, I'm not even good with this one. I don't want to get into another calibre either. I'll ride this scout thing for another season, but I'll use it as intended this time around and shoot it much, much more in the off season and get my skill up.
