What's Your Next Purchase? V5

Hey my dudes

I'm in need of a scope for my Ruger American .22 bolt action... any recommendations?

Not looking for anything to fancy/pricey. Something that'll works well with someone with only 2 guns lol.

$75 is the budget,

But it won't be the end of the world if I have to spend a tad more than that.
Not a lot of room to play with at $75; you're probably looking at the Tasco, Simmons or the "in-house" brands from a big box store like Bass Pro's Red Head or whatever Cabela's calls theirs.

Not great options, but if you insist, ensure it's a .22 scope for appropriate parallax correction.

I personally have the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 EFR, which has an adjustable objective from as close as something like 5 yards. I love it, but it's like $180ish.

Not sure how this will hold up to competition but the Centerpoint 3-9x40 with AO(5 yards - infinite) that came with my Benjamin NP2 .22 was surprisingly pretty good. Has over 1000 pellets through it and it's been great. They have quite a few options as well. As far as durability scopes made for air rifles are usually built to handle more vibration because break barrel air rifles actually have quite a bit of kick and vibration.

For a cheap .22lr with that budget I don't see anyone needing anything more tbh. Decent low light as well. Feel free to research.

Edit .
Took a few pics with a cell phone. The actual image through the scope is much better, it's hard to hold both steady enough and get the lens in perfect eye relief.

Roughly 250 yards

About 30 yards, only got one before it flew but it came out decent enough.

About 50 yards, only about to snap 2 crappy pictures before it took off.

Thanks for the response brother. Will definitely take a look into this. And thanks to the others who helped!

I bought this Black Rain single point sling with a clip, but I like QD. I couldn't find they had QD. I wanted it for a build with Black Rain receivers. Ultimately I decided that a 2-point sling was better with that rifle. What to do with this Black Rain sling?

I had one of these on hand.

th

So a seamstress was hired to swap out the clip for the QD. It's hard to decide the best part, that it looks better than the factory sewing job or that it cost $5. :D

Now I've got a QD Black Rain single point.

I like the Specter Gear better. And yeah, QD replacement attachment is in the mail.

EDIT: I'm liking the Black Rain sling with the Tavor, attached to the Gearhead Works QD mount integral to their gas port cover.

Unsure if I'm going for a .38 for the ankle or a full size .357 "look at me, I'm a toolbag" fun gun.

Any recommendations for either, sherdog?

....something in the middle??? 38 snubbies are not fun to shoot and you can get a semi auto that holds more rounds and probably carries better.

Large frame 357 magnums are awesome guns to shoot and you can shoot cheaper 38spcl ammo through them.

I'd get the ruger gp100 Wiley clapp edition and be done with it.

After reading more about freedom arms revolvers, I'm sort of turned off.

They are amazingly well built guns and there is no equal in terms of quality, fit, finish but there are issues that = big money.

For example the cylinders are precision fit so you shouldn't shoot 45lc out of the 454 chambers which means you need to order a 2nd hand for cylinder for ~ 400 dollars, the grips need to be fit so f you decide to change grips, you send the gun back which is over 100 bucks and then pay hundreds of dollars for the grips.

I'm also not a fan of having to carry it with the hammer down on an empty chamber, that makes it a 4 shot revolver.

For pure hunting purposes 4 shots is fine but if also likenit for a bear/woods gun and having an empty chamber dosent appeal to me.

Anyways. All said and done, I'd probably be close to 2800-3000 dollars for it by the time o got the gun, the upgrades I want, the extra cylinder/s and hopefully I'd like the grips I got the first time....

Maybe down the road but right now it's too much $$$ for a gun that I see a few issues with.

What's the reason for the "hammer down on empty chamber"?

LaRue has a deal on their new MBT trigger that if you're willing to wait indefinitely you can get it for $125 instead of $200. I said fuck it and plunked down. It's supposedly the best thing ever to happen to triggers so we'll see.

Well evidently larue is a turrist so I don't get to look on the monitor
