What's your coolest language ?

I only know how to say a couple of words in Anishinaabemowin. Planning on taking a class with my wife so we can learn some more.

It's is really freaking hard to learn and not a lot of resources to learn it.

Why not cool?
IDK... it does not sound sexy or anything. You have italian, french, portuguese, spanish.. those languages have a romantic ring on it.
German does not sound that pretty but I'm interested for some reason. Maybe is their culture.

Italian portugese spanish sound sexy?

Are there any similarities between Gaelic and Welsh ?

Of course, though because they are split off a long time ago it's not as apparent as between the goidelic languages (Irish, Scottish, Manx). There is some similar vocabulary where you can see a root word, and I believe the grammatical structure of all the celtic languages is quite similar.

Well, my wife was born & raised in Orange County in SoCal where her housekeeper/nanny talk her Spanish as a second language from the time she was a baby so she speaks it fluently, She's been trying to teach me the language since we met three years ago but I'm not making a whole lot of progress with it. So, I think it would be cool to get good enough to be able to converse with her in Spanish. Other than that, I've never desired to learn another language because all my ancestors are from the UK so English is my people's language.

Chinese.
As a child it was Hk/粤语. My grandmother worked as an educator and book dealer. She gave me a bunch of books about the world and they had a series about the history of China. I loved how interesting and different it was from life in the USA. I found the absolute difference to be so compelling.
When I was growing up my dad encouraged me to keep an open mind by reading comic books and manga as well as watching international cinema. M favorite movies were chow yun fat movies by John woo. My dad made me watch the subtitle versions with the 粤话audio to work on reading. I always thought the language was so interesting but unattainable as a kid in the southwest of the USA.
Now I live in China and get to use mandarin everyday.. and I still enjoy getting to use it and learn new parts of the language.

Id like to learn the big Asian languages, including Russian and the various Indian ones, as well as sign language. Learning some of the ancient ones would be neat too. As for coolest sounding, no preference.

I see.
For me a language doesn't necessarily have to be sexy to be cool, but to each their own.
