What's wrong with Jose Aldo?

Because landing leg kicks hurts and getting them checked is a young man's game. Ask any old muai Thai guy. Without guards on its horrible

Being old has nothing to do with leg kicks, you see old Thai fighters throw leg kicks all the time. Must be a nagging injury that prevents him doing it or he think that his current style suits him better (he's not wrong because he's still a top 10 guy after nearly 2 decades of fighting)

not only was he never any good! he was never my friend!

Jose Aldo was known for his incredible leg kicks, like in the Urijah Faber fight, Jose Aldo's kicks are an immensely powerful part of his game, Jose Aldo even dropped Peter Yan with leg kicks, yet Jose Aldo threw almost no kicks against Mario Bautista and got hugged the entire time.

Jose refuses to implement an important part of his game, and he seems to be unable to get off the fence, definitely not a safe bet.
Same reason Dan Henderson and Daniel Cormier stopped wrestling. They got old and had to conserve their energy.

Also the explosiveness they need to grapple is not there like it used to be, age and wear and tear robs them of it.

Its lke fucking Ground Hog day in this forum sometimes.

You ever throw a leg kick and land? Without shin guards? Spoiler: that shit hurts like fuck.

Aldo might have just gotten too old for that shit lol

even worse if that shit gets checked.
TKZ broke his foot by checking a kick in their fight and we never saw a leg kick from Aldo ever again
So you didn't watch the Ricardo Lamas fight huh?

He got injured, added Boxing and worked on his striking defense. Jose Aldo doesn’t get the respect he deserves from newer fans, he’s top 5 GOAT at this sport, it’s crazy where he was considered out his prime but the competition across FW & BW he was winning against top ranked opponents and losing without getting completely wrecked like other fighters who are still younger but fans consider out of their primes(Adesanya comes to mind).

Conor was a delusional fool who thought he could simultaneously be the best MMA fighter, and Boxer in the world, while being an undedicated, hedonist

Jose has fucked up legs (everyone who throws leg kicks that hard, that often, for that amount of time does) and adjusted his game accordingly

People use it as a knock like he’s too dumb to use them, I see an aging fighter who lost a massive tool, be able to adapt and be competitive with the best guys well out of his prime
This opinion is wrong.

Conor never thought that. You are making stuff up. This is coming from someone who hopes Conor suffers in hell, more than just “not a conor fan”.

Conor has been telling us in multiple interviews every year, not just in UFC but even before won his second Cage Warriors titles.
“Get in. Get rich. Get Out”.
One of his many famous catch phrases.

In fact both conor and Aldo were supposed to stay retired and obvious planned to do so (not talking about the obviously fake “thanks for the cheese”).

Aldo even started a burger restoraunt to stay busy.

The only reason Conor and Aldo keep coming back (and this is purely an educated guess), they miss it. Remember he wanted to run for mayor of dublin and the rape charges fucked it up? And he kept trying to come back to MMA after the leg breaks and didnt work out. He went ahead and bought BKFC to fill that void.

Lmao I used to be a massive Conor fan, and I still would like to see him turn his life around

But yes, he really did think this, when he fought Poirier the second time he said he picked Poirier because he’s a southpaw and had a fight lined up with Pacquiao… he fought Poirier with an almost entirely Boxing focused style because he wanted to go back and forth from MMA to Boxing

If Conor stuck to the get rich get out thing he would’ve retired after Eddie

I disagree it's the age thing because plenty of older Muai Thai pros are still kicking like hell. It's injury.

He injured his foot and started having issues if he threw too many
Switched up his style after that

But really he just got old and FAT
Weird thing to say about someone who moved down a weight class at the end of his career. I know he missed badly for Zahabi in his last fight. Let's not act like he changed his life to make 135 several times.

But a Sherdogger calling a legend like Aldo fat is peak comedy

As for the leg kicks yeah it kind of sucks. It was his identity in WEC. He simply stopped throwing them because it hurts when yoi get older. Modified his offensive style in a way that worked for him

If you think about it, in MMA, a lot of people can't rely on leg kicks for a long time. Barboza went away from them. Gaethje throws them sometimes. Gutierrez doesnt even throw them like he used to. Idk about MT or kickboxing but in mma it seems like leg kicking is not a sustainable offense throughout a career

I’m a huge Aldo fan buddy, followed his whole career
It’s called sarcasm ;)

All this crying bout "hurting your own leg...He posed to be a Karate Man !! Karate Man dont hurt like dat !!

I think if anything we should speculate the sorrow of his last weight loss, losing to Zahabi and the strangeness of his comeback. Very odd retirement and late career that was so hit or miss. His cardio SUCKED last week.

I know this is life and we gotta keep working and growing up but I'd prefer to remember his golden years
