What's the point if ties?

So a random shower thought came to me this morning, and it was about ties.

What's the point of ties? What's the point of this piece of cloth we wrap around our neck and have it hang there just being a nuisance to some of our every day lives? I don't get it.

I refuse to wear them... even with suits.

it adds character to a suit. if men wore suits and no ties, we'd all look the same.

It evolved from the cravat which was used as a napkin and to hide an untidy shirt.

There are analogs in nature. Much like the noble frigate bird uses bright colors along its neck to signify that it is ready to mate, the male of the human species adorns its neck with colorful strips of cloth to indicate that it's open for business.

I read the title as what's the point of tits and got utterly rustled.

because ties are an excellent touch to a suit

edit: I've also thought of them as a fancy way to conceal buttons

The business suit in general seems unnecessarily uncomfortable.

According to this link the tie was originally used to hold the top of a military uniform closed. King Louis XIII of France liked how it looked so he made it mandatory to wear to Royal gatherings and as with most things that the upper class do, eventually it became something that everyone else emulated. These days it's obviously just a style thing.

The key is getting one that fits well and you generally don't get that off the rack. Of course if you don't have to wear a suit very often it's not really worth it to get a suit tailored or custom-made so you end up with a suit that is kinda uncomfortable but you deal with it because you only wear it a few times a year.

This. On top of that I can't button my top button it's to tight. I'm wearing the right size shirt it's just my build I have a huge neck. Maybe I could get them tailored but I'm not doing that just for the rare times I do need to wear a tie. I just stopped wearing them.

It sounds like the problem is you buy your dress shirts in sizes indicated by a letter.

Nope like I said I by the right size. Made sure I was measured and everything. In fact I bought a lot of my current shirts while I was mid bulk so now that I've been cutting for the summer a few of them are to big on me they feel to loose and still the neck button is to tight. This is just the way it is when you lift weights like I do clothes don't fit you right because they are made for people with no asses, chest or necks.

I'm confused.

You had your neck measured, and buy shirts with that neck measurement, and they still don't fit? You got measured wrong then dude.

Dress shirts are sold by neck and sleeve length and they usually go up to 18" for neck size. So unless your neck is bigger than 18" you shouldn't have a problem finding a shirt that fits you.

That's the thing though if I get a bigger neck size the overall shirt is bigger as well. They start to get to loose fitting if I go up higher. I'm at 16 and already my shirts feel really loose on me while before while I was at the end of my bulk they were tighter. It's like they assume if you have a bigger neck size that your just fat.

Ties are just another way to identify assholes.

Most comfortable pieces of clothing I own are my suits. The satin on the inside of my blazers and how light the pants are in comparison to dress slacks means I never feel like I am wearing pants.

Our office dress code is strictly suit and tie from Monday through Thursday. Fuck that, I refuse to wear it, I usually wear it one day of the week.
