Well, Vita and 3DS can’t exactly compete with consoles. I really liked the Vita. It was a good piece of hardware. Shame it didn’t really take off

PS4 was the best this generation. I think overall the hardware this generation was pretty weak

Easiest call to make for any generation. It was a landslide.

Went PS4 because they had some solid exclusives. Overall though, it was a pretty weak generation. It seemed like if anything, it was a transitional gen. I preferred PC gaming this gen since it pretty much got all of the same games outside of exclusives the PS4/Xbox did and ran them better. This is the first gen all 3 platforms have been based on the x86 architecture which should lead to better backwards compatibility and parity going forward.

It's so funny at what an afterthought the WiiU is. I haven't looked at the numbers, so maybe it did better than I imagine, but it's gotta be one of Nintendo's biggest blunders since the Virtual Boy. That was DOA, and I'm pretty sure there's a healthy amount of people that don't even know what it was. I think it all came down to the name, too. People were so confused at what it actually was, with a lot of people just thinking it was some add-on for the Wii.

Microsoft and their stupidly similar sounding consoles, could learn a thing or two. Branding matters. Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S....what in the fuck? How fucking lazy can you be at naming your consoles? It's just needlessly confusing.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure the winner was the PS4 by quite a comfortable margin.

It’s a shame the Vita flopped.

Pretty strange to group the 3DS and Switch as being part of the same generation but I do realize that Nintendo hasn't really been aligning themselves with traditional console gens like Microsoft and Sony have for quite some time now.

I liked my PS4 the most but voted for the Switch because of the flexibility it offered.

I was traveling a ton for work and would regularly fly to the east coast from Washington. My Switch has seen so many air planes and hotels.

We bought a mini van back in 2019 with the entertainment package to keep the kids happy on road trips. Power outlets and an HDMI hook up let's the kids play when on the road for hours at a time.

Not to mention tablet mode, it just offers so much more than a traditional console. It's under powered compared to the competition, but it's pretty stunning what they've managed to squeeze into that thing.

PS4. Switch has been pretty solid and hopefully still has few good years left.

This man was the biggest deciding factor of that gen's results...

In terms of sales. Not in terms of which was the better console.

Microsoft had every opportunity to correct that course. To their credit, consistent with their initial launch strategy, they went to work hard with HTPC support on the software side where Sony lagged for years. I'm talking about everything from DLNA support to media apps to a/v codec & mp3 support. Their HTPC hardware was always going to be superior from the initial design, but they went further when their first console revision brought UHD Blu-Ray support.

You'd think they somehow forgot or overlooked the games, but they didn't. They plowed billions into exclusive development in the first few years after the weak launch. Didn't matter. They just weren't as good at it. Sony had the business figured out in a way they didn't, clearly. This is obvious when you look at exclusive libraries, GOTY nominee lists, yearly bestseller lists, or OpenCritic ratings by year. This is what determined the winner. This is why the poll is a horror film with Sony holding the chainsaw.

All that buzz about the incredible, innovative hardware in the Kinect and it's fantastic value...how'd that device age?

Mattrick fucking sucked.

this is the first gen that i regretted buying a console (ps4).

imo, the switch wins by sheer fun/versatility/local multiplayer.

I only picked up a Switch after getting a PS5, and now I have a Series X too, so with my Switch sitting on my TV stand with them it’s easy to forget it’s technically part of the last gen (or is it o_O?)

In any event, easily voting PS4. I bought one in 2015 for myself for my 30th birthday and got a lot of mileage out of it. Meanwhile, I bought myself a One S for myself for Christmas in 2017 and basically never played it whatsoever. I actually sold it in January after I bought my Series X. That’s the first time I’ve ever sold a console. I’ve still got my og Xbox, my 360, my PS3 and my Wii, so I guess that shows what lasting impression the One left on me.

I am going with the Switch only because of the games - Pokemon, MH, Zelda. My PS4, which I can clearly tell is the better system, has only been used to play Netflix for the last two years as there has literally been nothing worth playing on PS4 that I cannot play on PC.

If you buy a PS5 you get some of the best PS4 games included for free

I own an Xbone and a PS4, PS4 just collects dust, Xbone gets played every day
Xbone exclusives are more my style, only thing PS4 has that I really care about is Ratchet And Clank
I hate the PS4 controller, its way too tiny and crowded for my giant hamhock hands, Xbone controller is way better for me
Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate destroy PS Plus
Gotta go with Xbone

...ok, thanks?

You said you regret missing out on PS4, I said you can experience most of the great PS4 titles for free with the PS5.

A lot of people might not know that
