Safe to say the fans are the losers in both scenarios. People are right when they say you don't have to like it and don't watch it. I sure as hell don't.
A point fighter that runs a lot with no power, or a wrestler with no sub game or no real gnp? Stand and pray vs lay and pray, the ultimate debate.![]()
Fo sho…. We’re forced to watch sport playing tacticians these days instead of trained killers who will murder anywhere they canFighters like Fedor were the total opposite, I miss that era, like for real.
Yeah, “technical striking battles”At least with lay n pray you have one capable fighter “technical striking battles”
No I don't like those either but a guy who is absolutely lost on the ground after getting his opponent down with no signs of improvement from fight to fight, seems like a dead end. I'm talking about cutting a fighter for being bad at mma. IMO It's harder to make as strong a case for cutting an equally boring fighter for being good at mma but frustratingly evasive and ineffective on damage, if they're technically "doing everything right". Luckily the wrestling example seems pretty rare, whereas the sparring example seems like an epidemic -one requiring something like a rule change. To be clear I enjoy all aspects of mma.Should they cut stand up fighters who spar to decisions always as well? No one wants to see that either.
nb, if they refuse to engage in combat, they are an Embarassment to "UFC."A strong BJJ game with no takedown skills and reluctance to strike beats all those.
There is only one thing more borring to me than that and that's sloppy desperate takedown attempts that have ZERO chance of completion ala Woodley vs Maia. it was half starring contest, Half desperate weak hearted takedown attempts. I had friends over for that ppv and 4 people fell asleep during that fight.Nothing worse than a staring contest.
Just because of the gloves... UFC striking is always entertaining. Even Garry.. who you guys called a "point fighter".. That fight was a lot of fun.
You guys don't understand.. It's different from boxing where a point fighter like Shakur Stevenson is literally doing 0 damage..
Stand n Pray because at least you're wondering if they will get ko-ed.
Lay n pray, you're just wondering if the opponent will manage to get back up.

Why wouldn’t you wonder if the lay and pray guy will sub?
Both probably happens on similar frequencies.
